I, for one, welcome our new James Cleverly overlords:
Wandsworth Council could almost double council tax bills
The council says it will have to raise council tax by that much unless the government rethinks cuts.

The Tory leader of Wandsworth Council has resigned.

Wandsworth Council needs full-time leadership, not a part-time Tory leader and cabinet members who spend more time infighting.

Residents in Wandsworth deserve so much better.

First Past the Post is often dubbed a ‘winner takes all system’. But remarkably, it cannot even guarantee that the party with the most votes will win the most seats.

This is what happened in Wandsworth, as the Conservatives managed to turn a second place in votes into the most seats on the council.

1/ Congratulations to Sir Sadiq Khan who grew up on the Henry Prince Estate in Wandsworth. The estate, completed in 1938, was built by the Conservative-controlled Wandsworth Metropolitan Borough Council and named after a Conservative chair of housing.

🚫 Since the council installed anti-cycling barriers along the cycleway in Wandsworth Park, parents and children cycling to school are being put at risk. We’re calling for their immediate removal!

Good grief. Wandsworth Council’s plans to “tackle the gridlock” & “get Puntey’s roads mvping again” all involve stealing space & time from pedestrians in a self-defeating effort to increase traffic throughput 🤦‍♂️

Really bleak, horribly misguided stuff

Another one. Reform’s candidate for Tooting Broadway in the Wandsworth Council local elections on May 7 Stephanie Dearden has a history of vile social media posts.

Almost like there’s a pattern.

The newly elected Wandsworth Council is removing protective cycling infrastructure as it tries to address Putney's congestion issues - we don't think this is the solution. Londoners are more likely to cycle instead of drive when they feel safe on the roads.

In the grand scheme of things €300m is nothing. Wandsworth Council is spending £4MILLION on beautifying 100metres of a bridge underpass and the Labour government is spending £9BILLION on just 12-miles of new road
IMPORTANT: Paris has more than “vision.” They have clear plans. Including a 5-Year Pedestrian Plan:
- 300 million € invested by 2026
- 100 new hectares of ped space
- 100 more “streets for kids”
- Focus on 0 pedestrian deaths #VisionZero
- Longer ped cross times

Does your city follow smart plans?

In 2025, how is deemed a good solution?

Absolutely shameful on account of Wandsworth Council.
June 7, 2025 at 11:54 AM
Yes, the underlying problem is that the bridge is the responsibility of one council (Hammersmith and Fulham) but its users are are primarily in two others (Wandsworth and Richmond-upon-Thames).
