For us Web Developers there is the WebExtensions API (https://
developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Mozilla/Add-ons/WebExtensions) on the Mozilla Developer Network page made by Mozilla, but for Mozilla we have this "AI Controls" mess, the most incredible display of "what is consent...really?"
AI Controls (formally 'kill switch') are landing in today's Firefox Nightly, and will land with Firefox 148 later this month.

WebExtensions are very cool and I think the web platform's gigantic API surface area only makes it more amenable to modding in this way.

I think ease of modification is in many cases more important than something being open-source, for maximising practical user freedom (of course, both are good)

Simeon and Oliver chat about what happened in the February 13, 2025 meeting of the WebExtensions Community Group. That may sound boring, but it was actually quite nice and fun, thankyouverymuch.

I feel like Bluesky has reached a turning point! Much more activity now and it feels like home.

Been a good week. Spent most of it in Berlin with the W3C WebExtensions Community Group (we made a lot of progress), and wrapped it up with the State of the Browser conference yesterday.
