It's a webfic only genre. The originator is the Warhound series, one of the big examples & codifiers is Myrmidon, & from there you can find a lot more. It's also a tag on AO3. Its inspirations come from the Cyber-Newtypes in UC Gundam & Armored Core 6's MC, "Hound" 621, & Handler, Walter.

The Issue for us milsim trans chicks is that you can take all the same symbolism, be a bit more subversive about how you use them, change NOTHING else, and have Signalis or the entire mechsploitation webfic genre. Unless you know who's making it, the symbols mean different shit to the in-group.

Webfic planning has made me realise that Remy’s… not the best protagonist unfortunately! The plot happens to them way more than they happen to the plot - they’re mostly strung along and despite having a strong voice and morals, they never really use them. They’re simply too passive

I held off on submitting anything because almost all the qualifying transfem stories I've read this year was webfic, but there is, in fact, a category for that, so while my ballot was mostly-empty, I'm glad I got to recommend some stuff there.
I trend toward serialized writing; I am way too webfic brained and needy for immediate gratification to do otherwise.
But my first drafts are shockingly terrible tbqh, so I’ve tended to write large chunks, ahead, then post the second or third drafts as I edit.
