Also, I'm not being funny, but I find this way of reducing Scottishness and Welshness to "quirks" actually really fucking offensive.

Michael Sheen surely watching Wales V Norway and not his Traitors debut, given his Welshness and all. He's Welsh you know, very Welsh.

I wrote a piece for DIVA Magazine on Welshness and Queerness (and the overlap- and sometimes lack of overlap)

How learning about queer icons helped me connect to my Welshness

This is how I and my mates define our Welshness. Our Welshness is radical, it's just and it is in direct opposition with those who would turn us against our fellow citizens. Welshness is inclusive. We have a chance to hammer that home, to stand for others in solidarity (and for indy 💪)
In Wales, one of the experts I interviewed told me that there are plenty of Welsh people who define Welshness as *not right-wing*. Remember that this part of the U.K. was dominated by the Liberals throughout the 19th century, and then by Labour during the 20th.

The curated version of ‘Welshness’, framed through woodland, ritual, and a promise of depth, feels generous and narrowing at the same time. At its core, the problem is this: Welshness is not misunderstood. It is enjoyed in ways that prevent encounter ✍️ Llinos Anwyl
Consuming Welshness: Fetishisation, mysticism, and uninterrupted life
Llinos Anwyl There is a particular way Welshness appears. It tends to arrive as atmosphere. Framed through woodland, ritual, and a promise of depth that never quite reaches the present. Suspended. Thi...

I find it odd that "Tolkien unequivocally loved Wales and the Welsh" is becoming an article of faith for some when, in the round, his uses of Welshness and Celticity are pretty ambivalent

e.g. the Dunlendings being clear Welsh stand-ins whose resentment of Saxon Rohan makes them side with Mordor

They should embrace parochialism. True Welshness is coming from my home town, maybe the Rhondda valley *at a push*. Everyone else is bastard English, wannabe bastard English or not bastard English.
