#Whiptails
Those we’ve got—all the whiptails in our area are lesbians.

I don't care how many whiptails I've seen, I'm gonna keep saying "LIZARD" every time I see one

She is a Sonoran Spotted Whiptail Lizard
She is in my backyard
She is hunting for mealworms
She (my wife) puts out mealworms for the birds

Just a couple of ‘teen’ Western or Coastal whiptails hanging out. Interesting, usually the Western fence lizards are the high count #herps on the patio. We’ve seen three whiptails lately. Both tails are long, one looks like it is half original and half regrown. 👀

Two of the 4 lizards that showed up when I got home from the Park.
Over a foot long - Western or Coastal whiptails.
Much small young Belding’s Orange-throated whiptail also came by.
And a bit later a Western Fence lizard, shorter but much chunkier than the whiptails. #herps 🦎

Can you #FindThatLizard and help save Sibley Prairie? 🦎🌾

Tonight’s challenge species is the western whiptail lizard (📸 @agoadesq.bsky.social ). And while you won’t find western whiptails in Michigan, #FindThatLizard has never just been about one species or one place.

My bad for walking around without my DSLR. Anyway this is a New Mexico whiptail lizard! We are unable to abide by anti-DEI executive orders at this time, because our whiptails are all lesbians and very hard to remove from campus.

(Seriously, there are no male whiptails in New Mexico.)

Marty’s photo of the day #4943: While reef fish are often wary around people, three-striped whiptails are more of an in-your-face kind of fish:

“Hi! What are you? Whatcha doin’?”

(Photographed in the Raja Ampat of Indonesian New Guinea.)

The whiptails were digging for grubs
after I cut the weeds

Here is a Sonoran spotted whiptail lizard
with a grub clamped in her mouth

Look close and see her tongue

Look really close and see
her tiny teeth

Just in case anyone needs some lizard blep this morning 😛

I haven’t seen any Belding’s Orange-throated whiptails for a while, this might be FOY!

It’s a ‘teen’, or at least a tweener - in between a tiny and adult. Those stripes 🥰

They reproduce by parthenogenesis, and in some populations, same-sex mating is necessary for egg production. The real-life lesbian whiptails are way more interesting than the tired black widow cliché.

One of the Western whiptails stopped by. This adult has all of that looong tail!
Zoom in to see some lizard blep 😛

Such a pointy tongue. #herps

Wow, that was a fast transformation! Oh, wait. That’s right, two adult whiptails stop by pretty regularly 😄

I LOVE parthenogenic lizards! Whiptails are all female but vary their sexual roles between “male-typical” and “female-typical” behaviors!
The sexual practices of whip tale lizards have offered insights into the evolution of brain-behavior relationships and a new appreciation of neural plasticity rather than predetermination.

Props to the whiptails for getting rid of males altogether!
🏳️‍🌈 Happy Pride Month!

Mindful that biology has been weaponized against the LGBTQ community by people who don’t know much about biology, I’m making daily, queer, biologically themed posts for #PrideMonth2026

6/9: Female whip tail lizards have sex with each other. There are no male whip tale lizards.

Ya know who walks funny?? 😏

🦎🐦...the Dread Pirate Roadrunner, when he's out stalking the lizards! Especially without any tail-feathers! 🪶

All lizards are named Ashley (whiptails are haploid females) and this one is going to end up as a cat toy if she's not careful!

IDK but those lesbian whiptails in New Mexico definitely do!
Does skink belong at pride

Midnight will bring one new pet family: Whiptails.

www.wow-petopia.com/family.php?i...

These savage-looking beasts are Exotic, so you'll have to switch to BM spec to use them.

Their exotic ability is a stun, which I guess is mostly of use in PvP so I'm afraid I'm no judge of how powerful it is.

A pair of Tiger Whiptails were found in a gluetrap and mistaken as snakes. Austin was able to very carefully free them from the trap to release them in a safer spot.

Some other critters I saw today. Blackbuck, spotted whiptails, and a summer tanager

Shout-outs to @wowpetopia.bsky.social who answered all of my questions and continues to be a true hero for all Hunters! 🏹

Starting things off with Bilemaw the Gluttonous, who is my red buddy. Also like the dark attacks Whiptails have. 🍎

I do believe we have a few New Mexico Whiptails (our state reptile!) living around the house! My ID is based on its size and the zig zag of the spinal stripe. Cool note: this all-female species reproduces through parthenogenesis!!!
