The pavilion of the Whitevale Bowling Club in the Dennistoun area of Glasgow, as seen from Golfhill Drive. Built in the early 1900s, seen from this angle, it always reminds me of an old-fashioned railway signal box.

This is a photograph of Sculptor Archibald Dawson’s keystone of Mary teaching the infant Jesus under the Holy Spirit which sits over the central arch of the triple arched portal to architect Jack Coia’s red brick ‘A’ listed St Anne’s Church of 1931-3 at 17-19 Whitevale Street in Dennistoun. Jack Coia’s deployment of various brick types and techniques is quite superb. There is a lot contemporary architects could learn from this.

🌟We are delighted to announce that GBPT has been awarded £15K from the Pilgrim Trust’s Preservation & Conservation grant towards the redevelopment of Whitevale Baths.

Having lain empty since 2004, GBPT are working to restore the building and create a new home for the children’s charity PEEK.

Bluevale and Whitevale Towers under construction in Glasgow in 1967. After originally being condemned in 2011, the demolition of the 'Gallowgate Twins' was completed in early 2016.

#onthisday, 17 May 1902, the Corporation of #Glasgow opened its Whitevale Public Baths and Wash-house, with #TurkishBaths and gymnasium. Unusually, the building also included a reading room—part of the city's Libraries Dept. Glasgow did not divide their baths into 1st and 2nd classes. +ALT 🗃️ #C19th
Cooling-room with curtained cubicles each containing a couch for relaxation after the bath. Part of a hot room with open door. There are four recliners, and a drinking fountain in the centre of the rom. Shampooing room. On the left is a needle douche, in the centre at the back is a shampooing bench, and in the corner is a washbasin. It is not absolutely clear what is on the right hand wall. It could be a sitz bath. Any ideas welcome! Sepia photograph of the outside of the building.
