My version of this is "anyone who wants to be a politician needs to survive on minimum wage in rented accommodations for at least two years before doing so" but #WhyNotBoth.
I also think politicians should be obliged to live in the same circumstances as the least fortunate of their constituents.

Anyway, once again I pitch my idea for a national customer service job corps. Everyone needs to do one of the jobs that comprises most of our consumer based economy before they’re allowed to have any other job. Sliding scale of privilege. The wealthier you are the longer your tour of duty.

whynotboth but also the court of public opinion is not the legal system and this a good thing imo - there should be a higher standard of evidence for the govt depriving you of your liberty than for ppl concluding you're likely a bad influence and consequently not trusting your judgement
