17 years ago today:
After nearly not surviving his first 24 hours and then spending the next two weeks in intensive care, my son came home from the hospital.
It was the day after Thanksgiving that year.
It is my personal Thanksgiving every year.

When I tell people, I’m a Peds ID physician, I often get “oh wow that must be so sad”. But I often care for kids with infections that would’ve easily killed an elderly person who go home in a few days to live healthy, productive lives, & I can’t think of much more rewarding then that.

Today I got to snuggle a chunky squishy baby while he cooed and giggled as his older sister strutted around like a diva in her oh so fabulous outfit and I’m sorry but this is why my job is better than yours.

Also… I got to hold one of the MS3’s 6 month old baby for about an hour and a half (I claim dibs) and they were so sweet. We had big talks and explored all of the mirrors and paintings on the first floor of the house.
