There used to be a Dell Wireless Dock. Like fully functional wireless that had USB ports and display ports and stuff, it was powered by WiGig. I don't know if that was powered certified but I guess that's how it would work, being a signal carried through another protocol?

We really only got first order, we sent the USB hub's cable up to the aether. Never made devices that were themselves WiGig capable... That's probably not true, there's probably some WiGig native headsets somewhere.

Wigig worked. Everything else since has kept me with a tethered SteamVR native headset. Not for everyone, I know, but reliability matters more to me than dealing with a tether.

If I was to complain about anything, it would be the wifi-based wireless connection. It will work, but I want something beefier like a WiGig adapter.

then there's wpa_supplicant 2.10 which had 802.11ay EDMG support, successor to 60 GHz wigig. some amazing aetherwaving.

USB/WiGig/ #802.11ad /802.11ay #wasthere, had whole hardware transports for Media Agnostic USB that came and really went.
I'm not sure how power intense these systems were but not many battery powered options afaik.

I have the HTC pro with the wireless WiGig setup. Works almost as well as the index. I've had them all since the dev kits just prefer valve hardware and openness. Oculus wouldn't have access to steam store if the payers didn't revolt. Open ecosystems over closed imo.

It used Intel's WiGig technology, not radio, but yes, it had to have line-of-sight with the antenna, which admittedly had a very short cable that couldn't be extended, which made placement of the antenna very limited. However, it worked well for its time, and it holds up today... somewhat.

It uses an intel WiGig 60GHz signal. Also, didn't seem to have any issues with intel boards with WiFi. Apparently some AMD boards will work too... just not the one I have. I guess it isn't easily fixable, because they just refunded people's new wireless kits. My kit is too old for that though.
