#Wildersong
Toraki's name...this is all outside of ffxiv but I wanted something related to lightning and storms. Couldn't figure anything out with relevant kanji that sounded nice so I decided to go a bit more abstract with something unique to his home region in Wildersong
#wolqotd / #wolquestion

How did you come up with your wol / oc’s name?

Every single race in Wildersong is like, furry or furry-adjacent which is how you know I created this world lmfaooo

Both in Wildersong canon and AUs, Toraki learns how to make all of Nikos' fave homecooked meals from Nikos' mom so he can make them for him
September 4, 2026 at 6:44 PM
Especially in Wildersong, Toraki wants to make sure he can make them even when Nikos' mom is gone since Nikos will be functionally immortal just like him now...he wants to make sure he can still eat his childhood faves and that they taste the same

For Toraki's keyblades, I can just use the names of his swords in Wildersong: Summer Rain and Evening Haze. I have to think of one for Nikos tho

LRT I have come to accept that Wildersong will never be fully realized in a way that I would be satisfied with but that's okay, the fact that it exists in my head is enough and whatever manages to make it out of there is a minor miracle LMAO

In Wildersong, his dual swords can change into a bow and he can make the bowstring out of lightning and also lightning arrows cause I think it's sick as fuck

Every time I explain Toraki and Nikos' backstory in Wildersong I'm like this sounds crazier than I thought it would. The ffxiv version is much less crazy but maybe a bit more dramatic

Wildersong AU where Kyros discovers the plot to overthrow him much earlier so he manages to foil it with Toraki's help so Toraki doesn't end up killing Nikos' dad. Instead, his dad and those loyal to the old regime flee to another city-state to recover their strength and bide their time to come back

In typical fashion for Toraki, when he finally picks up fire magic in Wildersong, his control still isn't the greatest so it mixes with his lightning magic creating "dirty" thunderstorms. This is actually volcanic lightning and the resulting mixture turns his usual electric blue-white lightning red

The way it wouldn't be that difficult to make a WHA AU because Toraki already has mentor storyline in Wildersong (it's where he meets Nikos). His childhood struggle of being bad at magic while his mom is an accomplished and renown mage and he feels like he's letting her down works so well here too

LRT just reminded me that Toraki knows a lot of boating and fishing knots because he grew up fishing and being on boats a lot growing up in Limsa (and also in Wildersong)

My oc ships keep ending up as white-haired/dark-haired pairs but it's unintentional because they're designed before I even start shipping them and it's all but inevitable since white hair is pretty rare/restricted to certain species in Wildersong 😭

He's a catboy in game but in wildersong canon, he's actually a dhole

In Wildersong canon, Nikos' most-used nickname for Toraki is "o meli mou" or "meli mou". This is not a term of endearment in modern Greek but was noted to be one in ancient Greek by a historian that specializes in the time period so I'll believe it lmaoo

Listening to a three hour vid on ancient greek gods only to realize I somehow managed to recreate the epithet system for the gods in Wildersong

Anyways after some quick researching, here's the substitutions for coal and oil in Wildersong, depending on the usage case:

1) Magic
2) Drakefire (also magic; partially)
3) Charcoal (bloomeries or crucibles for metallurgy)
4) Fish oil
5) For steel: Iron ore comes imbued with carbon already (lmao)

This is also partially linked to me not wanting industrialization to be easily achievable as an explanation for why Wildersong stays at a pre-industrailization tech level. A reason isn't really needed but I mean if it comes built into the world anyway, that works perfectly fine for me

Idle worldbuilding thoughts of the day. I suddenly realized that since the world that Wildersong takes place in was made by Eikana and Furana, then fossil fuels like oil and coal should not exist which in turn means there needs to be alternative sources of fuel for things like steelsmithing

Was trying to recall how lines of credit worked irl in the 17th-18th century for Wildersong since Nikos would have had to use a letter of credit or something similar to buy Makoto's flute for Toraki. It was definitely a hefty sum that no traveller would be carrying on hand lmao. Fun 20 min research

Toraki's dual swords in Wildersong canon were specifically made for him so he could swap between melee and ranged. They combine to form a bow and because the blades are different lengths, the bow resembles a yumi bow more than a longbow

The way they describe this Palico's scent is frying me, this is how I describe Toraki's scent in Wildersong LMAO (a summer's day)
March 28, 2026 at 7:56 PM
The way Toraki tilts his head to the side when he says "oh?" in mhs3 the same way he does in Wildersong canon, this is great
March 28, 2026 at 3:08 AM
He also becomes a bit less reckless in Wildersong after they get together in canon too. "Oh no, Nikos will be so upset and mad if I come home injured" 😂

Had a moment just now where I was like "hmm, I'm not familiar with how apotheosis works in Wildersong, lemme look it up in the wiki" and then I remembered this is my own storyworld. Bitch, the wiki doesn't exist, you make all that shit up yourself!!!!!!
