#Wittenoon
Wittenoon has been removed from the maps and is off limits to everyone. That entire story is a lesson for everyone, especially mining companies.

Outstanding program today. the situation with Wittenoon is so shocking it's almost hard to believe and the COP revelations are fascinating. Albanese is untrustworthy.

I heard the maker of this film on a recent Sunday Shot. Another Lang Hancock legacy. Tailing heaps never remediated and now a 46,000 hectare exclusion zone around the former asbestos mine at Wittenoon.

And in WA a 46,000 hectare exclusion zone around the Wittenoon asbestos mine and despite inquiries and recommendations to urgently remediate mine nothing has been done.

It's not just Hancock & CSR at Wittenoon. There's about 80,000 pits / mines across Oz that spread ill-health & remain to be encapsulated / rehabilitated, but are run by the perennial 3D (dig dump depart) behavior of extractors & the blind-eye of successive govts. johnmenadue.com/post/2025/11...

During 1937, Lang Hancock from the Mulga Downs pastoral station in Western Australia began mining and milling activities for blue asbestos (crocidolite) at the nearby Yampire Gorge.

Successive governments and regulators appear totally impotent in forcing miners to fulfill their restorative and compensative obligations....why?

'We've had enough': Traditional owners have waited more than 60 years for deadly asbestos to be removed from this ghost town
The land of the Banjima people is still scarred by mountains of asbestos tailings left by historic mines near the ghost town of Wittenoom. They are calling for urgent action.

The people who inhabit the alternative universe known as Surfers Paradise will adore another gaudy, repulsive tower that is everything they want and applaud. The rest of us treat it like wittenoon, a toxic waste land best avoided

red tape is a euphemism for safeguards, greentape is obviously environmental safeguards . great idea ! look at how well the mining companies have rehabilitated land all over Australia . Wittenoon is a perfect example

The nastiest is Wittenoon, considered "the largest contaminated site in the southern hemisphere" that
left behind three million tonnes of asbestos tailings, which litter the 46,000 hectare Wittenoom Asbestos Management Area. Discovered by Hancock, sold to CSL and then James Hardie
