I think the 'reactionary centrist' concept is probably the best way of describing a lot of these people. They feel they are liberal because they're cosmopolitan and wordly; they have dinner parties, eat hummus, have gay friends. But they *are* conservatives in their actual politics.

This 17th-century watch is a "memento mori," a reminder of the shortness of life. The inscription roughly translates: "Thus passes wordly glory remember your end." It was sold by Christies in 2017 for £12.5K.
