#Workforce-as-a-Service
Old (2023) data, but handy for a note of appreciation for colleagues who served:

“Of the 37,485 total employees in the Forest Service, there are currently 5,555 individuals who identify as veterans, making up 14.8% of the agency’s workforce.”

Thank you, veterans, for your service and sacrifice.

National Weather Service employees were encouraged to take early retirements at an all-hands meeting Thursday. The union believes as many as 1,000 could leave in the coming months - out of a workforce of just over 4,000.

Civil servants are motivated by a myriad of things. The portion of the workforce being RIFed tends to value (1) public service, (2) use of highly technical knowledge, and (3) stability. The federal workforce has "blue-collar" workers, but that's not what they view as "low productivity."

I will say as a service industry physical laborer in the furry community we need to acknowledge how bad of a problem we have uplifting the blue collar workforce that makes up most of our community like. i see posts celebrating The STEM and art and medical but never our postal workers or janitors.

A shitty service that makes everything worse and uses 100% pure distilled exploitation as its fuel source should be regulated lol, they truly are just banking on complacency and momentum as a shield against paying and retrieving consent from their billion person workforce

A bill introduced on Friday would classify National Weather Service employees as critical to public safety, making them harder to fire. It comes after hundreds of agency staffers lost their jobs as part of the Trump administration’s sweeping cuts to the federal workforce.

Job cuts = “attrition” and “workforce management actions.”

Service cuts = “prioritizing fiscal responsibility” and “staffing to meet the evolving needs of visitors.”

And NPS still offers “memorable and meaningful experiences for all.”

What is this? It’s a threat to all employees.

It sure looks like the EO is trying to give OPM the authority to determine any employee’s suitability.

That is- if OPM deems an employee as not suitable they could make employment decisions without following civil service protections and due process.
