Love this photo. Not just because it’s me mum standing at the door of our newly built council house around 1972 but because of the door colour.
Every other house in our cul-de-sac was red or blue, the corpy always painted ours yellow. No idea why.
They still live there. 😍

machinery generated even more warmth, while heavy clothing and long shifts made conditions exhausting. Outside, the dense industrial landscape offered little shade or relief. Summer meant sweat, noise, dust and the constant heat of industry. #ClimateChange #WorkingClassHistory #IndustrialHistory

deaths in Castleford were infants under age one, forcing the creation of a local Board of Health. Even into the late Victorian period, infant mortality remained stubbornly high, routinely claiming 150 to 200 lives per 1,000 live births. Part 2 Thursday #WorkingClassHistory #SocialHistory #Childhood
