In the memo, “Nvidia also responds to claims that the ‘current situation is analogous to historical accounting frauds (Enron, WorldCom, Lucent) that featured vendor financing and SPVs [special purpose vehicles.)’”

I’m old enough to remember Enron and Worldcom

The most consistent bit of feedback I've got from today's piece is that everybody loves talking about and saying Enron, Worldcom and Lucent, I'm getting so many random dotcom stories, it rules, I love my readers

Then there's Worldcom: also a gigantic fraud, Worldcom falsified billions' worth of orders for new fiber optic lines, which it then dug up streets all over the world and installed. When Worldcom went bankrupt, all that fiber stayed in the ground, and many people are still using it today.

Just wait til Q2 and Elon fudges the numbers. Gonna make Worldcom and Enron look like brilliant investments.

It's the next MCI Worldcom...

The new episodes are fine but they'll never have ads shilling for WorldCom 😩

Enron actually did have oil, WorldCom actually did do telecommunications, waste management did pick up trash

"He served as a commissioner from 2002 to 2008, a tenure that began shortly after the Enron and WorldCom accounting scandals and ended just before Lehman Brothers filed for bankruptcy."

Great!

Reminds me of when WorldCom bought MCI. Tick ... tick ... tick ...
March 3, 2026 at 9:29 PM
Nonsense. Pets dot com and WorldCom went under and nobody has used the internet since!

I think Shep is planning to hold Worldcom in your kitchen. It's probably nothing super urgent to read.

I shall be there! Looking forward after seeing you at Worldcom a couple of years ago 🙂

I can't go to WorldCom anyway because trans and frightened of trying to enter the US. Given the new lesbophobic panel, I would not want to.

9/11 resulted in the FBI giving white collar criminals a 20-year holiday from prosecution. The feds that snuffed out Enron, Worldcom, and Arthur Andersen for corruption were off chasing terrorists instead and white collar crime flourished unpunished.
Elon Musk has been a walking SEC violation for a decade and no one cared. The entire Trump era could have been avoided if the US took white collar crime anywhere near as seriously as it does low level drug crime.

On a 2023 earnings call, Elon Musk boasted that Tesla had bagged “over 1 million” Cybertruck reservations and that “demand is off the charts.”

So why has the company still sold less than 50,000 trucks since customer deliveries began 14 months ago?

Love it or hate it the Zune is here to stay, google+ is here to stay, the Blackberry is here to stay, the Sinclair C5 is here to stay, the NEC PC Engine is here to stay, Enron is here to stay, Theranos is here to stay, Worldcom is here to stay etc etc etc.
“Love it or hate it it’s here to stay” is a crazy thing to keep saying about a technology. If people don’t like using something it doesn’t have to stay we’re not talking about bad weather here

I thought of WorldCom
September 11, 2026 at 11:30 PM
Worldcom laid a shitload of fibre before they went tits up. I expect much the same here.
