Stephen Colbert is set to present his final episode of the Late Show on Thursday, concluding the long-running CBS programme that began in 1993 with David Letterman. After the final taping, Colbert has planned a wrap party for his team and various celebrity guests, featuring a playful dress code described as 'Fired & Festive'. The cancellation of the show was announced by CBS in July of last year, citing financial considerations and praising Colbert as 'irreplaceable'. This announcement closely followed Colbert's public criticism of Paramount, CBS's parent company, over a $16 million settlement with Donald Trump concerning allegations that '60 Minutes' had deceptively edited a 2024 interview with then-Vice President Kamala Harris. In the months since the cancellation was revealed, Colbert has used his platform to openly mock his corporate overseers and Donald Trump, making references to Trump's 'Board of Peace' and emphasising his intention to speak the 'unvarnished truth to power'. The wrap party appears to be a lighthearted celebration of Colbert's time on the show, while also acknowledging the controversies surrounding the show's conclusion and his relationship with the network.
