his basic idea about debt, like musk's, is that repaying it is optional, and that if you're a big enough debtor you can just threaten your creditor with default and they'll accept a writedown. he's done this his entire life. he does not understand that his creditor is "every bank."
The only thing Trump knows about treasuries is that famed 80s Wall Street vulgarian John Gutfreund of Salomon Brothers fixed the market and got away with a slap on the wrist. Musk doesn't even know that much. They will make more money for themselves. But they don't understand how anything works.
