Honestly, I much prefer Wrynecks when they're like this:

Pretty sure I can see about 7 Wrynecks in those photos 😂

In the space of just six days, I’d managed to miss two wrynecks, so when I heard that one was repeatedly showing well, and, rather remarkabl...

wrynecks are so satisfying, but beddington farmlands are where the real magic happens

During the past week I have enjoyed seeing Baird's Sandpiper, 2 Pallid Harriers, a surprise Kingfisher at Virkie, 2 Wrynecks and this Greenish Warbler in our garden (our second). On the debit side, numbers of most migrants are a mere fraction of historic levels. #BirdingScotland

These are so strange to observe! Friend had one in her garden a few years ago - first time I'd heard of them. Do click - to see why they're called wrynecks

Wrynecks in the Obs Quarry - nice find by Roger Booth who'd taken a walk over there after we weren't employing him enough with mist-netted birds at the Obs.

Flogged the coastal scrub at Low Newton yesterday, no Wrynecks or Barred Warblers, not even a Pied Flycatcher ! A few migrants tho, plenty of Willow Warblers, 2 Lesser Whitethroat and 1 Garden Warbler. 2 Yellow Wagtails and a Swift over south.

Incredibly, I saw 2 UK Wrynecks yesterday. The first, on Bryher, was found by @olibeacock.bsky.social (we dipped the Bonelli’s). The 2nd at the Garrison on St Mary’s. Female Pied Flycatcher & Willow Warbler, Lower Moors on Tues. #birds #ukbirds #birdsseenin2026 #scillybirding #bryher #stmarys

Wrynecks (Jynx torquilla) are really on the move right now in Hungary.

10th August 2004 myself and @ipin-by-the-sea.bsky.social had a good arrival at Newbiggin with 5 Wrynecks and a Red backed Shrike amongst others.
Days like that seem to be just dreams now..

Very cool and helpful indeed! Also very interesting to hear that social calls had exactly the same effect on bluebirds as we previously found for wrynecks in Switzerland (which also nest in vineyards): besjournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10....
Playback attracts prospecting individuals, but habitat quality is key for settlement in the Wryneck Jynx torquilla
We investigated the effects of food availability (personal information) and conspecific vocalization (social information) on habitat selection of the Wryneck Jynx torquilla. Both personal and social ...

Send wrynecks, please.

Getting there was always fine - the walk back depended on whether one saw much/anything. My memories go back to being teenager and having last week in Aug before back to school. Wrynecks, Icterine, Barred Warblers…

Woodpeckers are part of the bird family Picidae, which also includes the piculets, wrynecks, and sapsuckers. Members of this family are found worldwide, except for Australia, New Guinea, New Zealand, Madagascar, and the extreme polar regions

Eurasian Wrynecks do breed in the Alicante region but are scarce and generally difficult to find. I managed a few photographs of this male near Alcoi where the habitat is quite different. A nice year tick. #birds #birdoftheday #birdsseenin2026 #birdphotography #birding

Cool new preprint led by Martins Briedis: Eurasian wrynecks from Germany use very different migration strategies (from S Europe to sub-Saharan Africa). Multi-sensor logger data show long migration trips are costly, but warming winters may soon favor staying in S Europe doi.org/10.64898/202...

😂Yep I think that’s right. They look cool… but not as cool as Wrynecks imo.
I am of the opinion “if you build it they will come” attitude rather than instant ego satisfaction. Maybe that last bit is a bit of cynicism😉

They're photogenic, charismatic and helpfully sit in the open for wildlife safaris, which may have something to do with where the proposals originated... Wrynecks just won't sit in the open to generate the same tourist revenue.

We just found the first Wryneck clutch of this year in one of our boxes. 4 eggs at the moment, all things being well, more will be added, perhaps up to 12. Laid on an old Great Tit nest, Wrynecks don't take material into their nest cavities

Today's next box control had the earliest great tit nestlings of the last 20 years. Never we had nearly full fledged chicks at the 1. May. A few blue tits were also there, but all still breeding. Totally missing were tree sparrows and also our rare wrynecks. Common redstart has gone 10 years already

The Raccoon is an invasive species in Europe which has become a big problem for nesting birds, often taking nestlings, eggs & adults in nestboxes. My friends working with Wrynecks in Germany have devised a simple, cheap, deterrent, wrapping "slippy" plastic sheeting around the tree trunk below boxes

Holme Dunes I assume? Good to read this, I haven't been there for 10 years, must get back. I remember great autumn falls there, wrynecks and a Storm Petrel flying along the beach
