Some more breaking local news: Wyland (and his local attorneys) just made good on his threat to file a federal suit over that downtown Dallas whale mural under the 1990 Visual Artists Rights Act.

Also: "Wyland seeks actual damages of not less than $25,000,000."

Robert Wyland’s whale mural is torn down along with the Courthouse annex.

Wyland graciously offered to paint a new mural elsewhere instead, but County Executive Scott Walker asked him to *pay* Milwaukee County to do it. Wyland’s reaction is below.

The artist Wyland is suing FIFA and others because one of his huge whale murals was painted over (to be replaced with something World-Cup related without notifying him or obtaining consent.

You know, the one inspiration I have to credit besides various ocean life documentaries (plus public aquariums I visited & Finding Nemo) is Robert Wyland.

Since 1981, his ocean life arts have genuinely impacted me and I'm glad to carry on his passion of ocean life to this day.
