#Wylye
“This is beginning to really f*** me off."

Feargal Sharkey is back testing rivers for toxins, and he’s far from impressed by what he’s found in the River Wylye.

For the #DeadNettleFamily challenge here’s Marsh Woundwort Stachys palustris close to the River Wylye and beside the Kennet & Avon canal #WildflowerHour

Lovely plants in between the anthill gardens, too: Nodding Thistle, Fragrant Orchid, Betony, and Dyer’s Greenweed, to name but a few. #WiltsBotSoc on Wylye Down today

A drop of rain recently has brought some of the ant hills at Wylye Down NNR to life and a fresh wave of Chalk Fragrant orchids is coming through. No Frog orchids or hybrids though, yet. Also very satisfying to have got the Bastard ...Toadflax (Thesium humifusum) 😃 22-6-2025. @ukorchids.bsky.social

Lovely day with WBS at Wylye. The anthills were colourfully dressed. Here with Wild Thyme.

Englands secret distillery? Wylye in Wiltshire plays host to this amazing distillery, already 850 casks in but little fanfare as owner Sam Barber knuckles down to fill his warehouse with consistent, flavoursome spirit. An impressive operation by any standards 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🥃🙌

Gorgeous! I used to see them opposite my house in Wilton, on the Wylye..

Out today doing my “other job”, managing the River Wylye. Seems like every work party we come across new signs from our wild #ChalkStream beavers 🦫🌳🐟

I hold a license but so far haven’t encountered a single problem requiring intervention.

Looks like I'm walking home the long way tonight.

As sure as #FontsMeanFarewell the #SalisburyToTheSea2024 scamper has to end. Indeed it's the end of the 21 month long Salisbury five rivers series starting with the Wylye and ending with the Avon. Time for Mouse to hang up her scampering shoes for winter. #ChristchurchInDorset

This trip away has been extraordinary. It started with the medieval hair at the almshouses chapel in Sherborne that I associate with W. F. Dixon and now on my way back through the Wylye valley three unattributed (www.stainedglassrecordings.org.uk/search-resul...) Dixon windows.

Wilton, on the banks of the rivers Nadder and Wylye. (From the latter, hence Wylye-town, Wilton, and Wylye-town-shire, Wiltonshire, Wiltshire.)

Accept no pretenders!

The rivers Wylye, Bourne, Ebbe and Nadder are rare chalk streams. Wessex Water have been releasing raw sewage into all of them. Three quarters of chalk streams globally are in England. These are habitats that need protecting from mismanagement and corporate greed, urgently. Nationalise water now.

Look closely, just beyond the pigs & left of the caravan: the sarsen is a candidate for 'Egbert's Stone', where in 878 Alfred gathered his men before advancing to meet Guthrum the Dane in Battle, at Ethandun. It's a long story. (See alt.)
