#X86
i built an entire x86 CPU emulator in CSS (no javascript)

you can write programs in C, compile them to x86 machine code with GCC, and run them inside CSS

"arm64" and "amd64" are basically the same word, so I use neither. it's aarch64 and x86-64.

I just revealed to @gearlis.bsky.social that X86 CPUs don't natively speak X86 but have microcode that implement the X86 architecture on top of their own internal CPU architecture and they're losing their mind

According to Valve, they managed to run pretty much all x86 games (so far) on their new ARM-based PCs thanks to this FOSS project:

github.com/FEX-Emu/FEX

This runs together with Proton to seamlessly transcode Windows x86 games for Steam OS on ARM. FOSS is THAT cool!

Yet x64 and x86 are both x86.

Weeeee!
"The term "x86" refers to a family of instruction set architectures (ISAs) based on the Intel 8086, "

If you’re a CPU architecture nerd, do yourself a favor and read FEX’s latest blogpost on emulating x86-TSO.

Do you like reading Dolphin-EMU’s dev blogs? Then you’ll enjoy this.

Apple has the huge advantage of being vertically integrated so Rosetta was able to “cheat” with dedicated x86 semantics.

I made a free, browser based x86 disassembler with CPU-specific modes.

Disassemble POP CS at last!

No ads or trackers. If I ever make it shitty, fork it.

friendly reminder: some computers are neurotypical (x86) and some are neurodivergent (ARM) but both are a heccin valid 😊🌸
