The core I’ve been working on for the Graphics Gremlin HDMI now supports the following:
- Full VGA feature set (includes CGA and EGA)
- VESA support for 8-bpp bank-switched modes: 320x200, 320x240, 320x400, 400x300, 640x400, 640x480, 800x600
- MDA as a configurable secondary adapter on 4-bpp HDMI
Switching contexts - the assembled ISA-to-HSMC bridge boards arrived from JLCPCB. This will allow an Altera FPGA kit's HSMC port to talk to the bus using an over-spec'd cable for rapid prototyping. Previously I did this for PCI, hopefully this will offer the same flexibility.

It's alive. sans a few parts past-me borrowed from future me that are now on order, the FPGA flashes and configures.

When I ordered the boards, the parts were on backorder. They arrived several months later. Then I got the HDMI version pre-built. I was able to find the parts in my component bins. Tip: use the invoice numbers when doing this, would have taken forever otherwise.

On a scallop kick lately. If you add onion granules to the flour dredge, it does something incredible to the flavor.

Qualitas Software (makers of 386MAX) had their own incredible debugger for all things (real mode, protected mode, v86, DPMI/VCPI, Win31/9x kernel) called 386SWAT.

Thanks Ian! This work great on my IBM PS/S Model 30. #retrocomputing
PicoGraph is already available. You can run it with a supported DisplayLink device (don't get one based on DL-3xxx chipset), grab an older $20 one off amazon) and a PicoMEM2. github.com/ianhan/picog... @moorejh.bsky.social is the first user so far on an IBM PS/2 Model 30.

In 1980, Intel introduced the 8087 floating-point coprocessor chip. Plugging this chip into your IBM PC made math 100 times faster, good for CAD and spreadsheets. I opened up the chip to reverse-engineer exactly how it does complicated calculations. Let's take a look inside...

For comparison, here’s the FPGA version, using the GPU from MiSTer’s PSX with some glue logic for the bus.

I’m getting a kick out of both displays being FPGA-driven.

In case you were wondering, this is the performance of the DTL-H201A on the RP2350B. The unoptimized Beetle PSX GPU is fast enough for the tools meant for the artist board, but not a 3D accelerator.
