RegEx on HTML is tricky: tinyurl.com/RegEx-Parse-...

I like the command line tool Xidel (v0.9.9). Not only does it request and handle malformed HTML very well, you can use XPath/XQuery/CSS/Jsonic/HTML-templates, many options and output formats. Wrap it in PowerShell as a great webscraping toolbox.

Spidery looping clusters of writing. Is it writing? Lines of text? They almost look like lines of text, but with large gaps. There are looping strokes, and dots and little marks. Arabic? No. Not Arabic. Something stranger. Eerie. Alien. Green and yellow. Does the colour signify?

Colour and flow

The palette is a series of bold colours: cadet blue, rust, tan. The background paints these in a gradient from blue in the top left to red in the bottom right. Across the background are a series of horizontal lines, also in these colours, of various lengths, with gaps. The long lines tend to be blue, creating wide bubbles surrounded by bands of lighter tan and rust froth. Abstract, but the eye -- always -- looks for form and meaning. A dancer, reaching back over their head? A map of islands? Surf rolling in?

Swirls of bright dots over a black background: pale yellow and pinkish. The swoops expand and contract, and seem to have a triangular pattern of fading from larger to smaller, rather like the patterning of a snake, perhaps. Along the boundaries we get a distinct sense of regular series, led off my one larger dot with a tail streaming in its wake.

We've been managing the XML of @oldbaileyonline.bsky.social for over 20 years now! It's all XML, converted to a db for website search; we do periodic updates when there's been funding. (I mess around with it in personal projects using XQuery (mainly), XSLT (occasionally) and R.)

Many years ago, a friend said "XML is like violence: if what you have isn't working, the answer is always more XML" (presumably referring to XSLT, XHTML, XQuery, etc).

The background is purple-blue slanting down to yellow in the bottom right corner. There are pale streaks, beams of light, running across from a region on the far right, as well as exploding from various regions across the center. Across it all is a swirling swooping collection of semi-linked curves, in groups of decreasing size with the same shape, various shades of blue. There is something vaguely birdlike about it, a flow swooping and swirling, but also broken and falling. There is a sense of hazard, perhaps.
