#Xenopus
The final paper from my PhD is out in Developmental Biology! 🐸

We show that the #microRNA miR-219 is needed for neural border and neural crest development in #Xenopus neurulas 🧬

Highlights
•MiR-219 depletion expands the neural border territory and disrupts neural crest specification.

Authors published a paper in Biorxiv, they used FastQC in the study. Including #RRIDs will make this less ambiguous.

Today was the last time I did the Xenopus practical lab demonstration to the students at UCL. The first photo was when I first joined the @mayorlab.bsky.social lab, and the second photo is from today, 4 years later. We hope the students enjoy learning about wound healing and #devbio!

Before we go forward, look back.
Dec 2019: myself, and my professors delivered a high impact senior thesis project at
Cell Bio Society annual meeting in Washington DC.

Hard to imagine just 7yrs later I would be again in the epicenter of politics.
Representing science.

Our latest work: Following our 2021 paper, in which we already demonstrated that TPR and ZC3HC1 form regular, repeating structures in Xenopus oocytes, we now show that these structures also exist in human cells, such as HeLa cells.

Mitchell et al., 2007 — flow builds its own polarity 🔁 Kintner's lab showed that on Xenopus skin, tissue patterning gives cilia an initial bias, then flow is necessary and sufficient to refine it ➡️ a positive feedback loop sets ciliary planar polarity.

Tissue flow acts as a guidance cue for immune cell polarization and directional migration - Nature Cell Biology
Le et al. show that in Xenopus embryos, local ectodermal tissue flows provide a directional cue that polarizes and guides embryonic myeloid cells migration via cell-on-cell interactions.
