Also Yasugi’s the heartland of Japanese sword ‘tatara’ ironmaking, no wonder why there’s a Touken Ranbu ‘collabo event’ 🗡️✨

Souvenir pennant in Japan, my collection.
"Kiyomizu-dera Temple", Shimane Prefecture.
Kiyomizu-dera is a very old temple located in Yasugi City that was founded in the 6th century. It is known as the Kannon (Buddha) of Warding Off Misfortune.
Length 66cm (25.9in). Circa the 1970s. #vintage
1. A pennant from Yasugi Kiyomizu-dera Temple. It features an illustration printed on white fabric. The outer edge of the illustration’s circular frame is decorated with yellow synthetic resin fringe. The pennant comes in its original clear vinyl bag and includes a paper tag. The tag reads: “As a souvenir of your trip… For your room… Pennant” (navy, pink, white). 2. The illustration depicts the Konpondo (Main Hall), where the principal image is enshrined. Built in 1393, the Konpondo is a wooden, thatched-roof structure designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan. 3. Close-up of the illustration. The Main Hall of Yasugi Kiyomizu-dera, the Konpondo Hall, is depicted within a circular frame adorned with yellow synthetic resin fringe. The stone walls and stone steps in front of the Konpondo Hall, as well as a wooden lantern in the foreground, are depicted with great artistic flair. A three-story pagoda is depicted in the center of the flag. Cherry blossoms (?) surround the pagoda, while autumn leaves appear in the upper left corner of the flag, and a design (in red) resembling a square seal bearing the words “Tourist Souvenir” is featured in the lower left corner. 4. The title is in Japanese. It reads “Kiyomizu-dera” (red, black) in calligraphic-style kanji. An illustration of the folk performance “Yasugi-bushi” (the “Dojō-sukui” dance) is depicted on the right edge of the flag.

Daughter Miyuki

Uemura Shōen

1914

watercolour on silk

Adachi Museum of Art, Yasugi, Japan
Painted in 1914 and preserved in the Adachi Museum of Art, Daughter Miyuki (Miyuki) showcases Uemura Shōen’s masterly ability to infuse literary romance with profound psychological presence. The Nihonga painting depicts Princess Miyuki—the tragic heroine of the celebrated jōruri (gidayū puppet theater) and Kabuki play Asagao Nikki (The Tale of the Morning Glory)—seated upon the floor beside a thirteen-stringed zither (koto) and an open, illustrated narrative box (e-sōshi). Shōen captures Miyuki in a moment of startled, youthful alertness: her torso twists in a fluid S-curve while her head turns back over her shoulder, as if suspended by a sudden footstep or the distant sound of her beloved’s voice. Her pale, delicate features—rendered with razor-thin calligraphic contours (sen-gaki) and a faint flush of vermilion along the cheeks and lips—convey an arresting synthesis of aristocratic innocence and latent emotional drama. The sartorial rendering offers a feast of historic textile craftsmanship. Miyuki is draped in a luminous, coral-pink furisode entirely patterned with fine all-over tie-dye spots (kanoko shibori, evoking the dappled coat of a fawn). Sweeping across the lower skirt and train are bold, hand-painted bamboo grass leaves (sasa) executed in rich emerald and golden ochre, their crisp outlines providing a grounded visual anchor against the soft, porous texture of the tie-dyed field. Adding a dramatic chromatic counterpoint, her voluminous obi is tied in a high, youthful bow of cobalt blue adorned with vertical stripes and broad golden chrysanthemum (kiku) roundels. The subtle glimpse of red-and-white striped under-sleeves (kasane-eri) and the fine lacquered inlay of the neighboring koto underscore her elevated social rank and classical training in the traditional arts.

This naturally had me wondering "What is a Yasugibushi? Some kind of anime character I've never heard of?" (which would fit the context of my translation), and that question led me to this website that should really hire a translator already.
