I bought a ZoomFloppy and hooked it up to my laptop and one of my existing Commodore floppy drives.
Not the most intuitive experience, but I managed to plough through the instructions and finally get it to back up the disks to D64 files that would work with Vice.

I'm dumping some more #C64 disks with my #zoomfloppy and it's a bit of a process with many cables. So far so good though.

I use this little XUM1541 device together with
OpenCBM: github.com/OpenCBM/Open...
and D64EIC blog.worldofjani.com?p=647 to combine D64 images when the XUM can't get a single stable one.
As far as I know XUM1541 can't really do anything sophisticated, KryoFlux or ZoomFloppy are better for that.

Thanks! Right, the ZoomFloppy seems to be preferred over the XUM1541. The ZoomFloppy is shipped from the US, which is slow and adds import costs. The XUM1541 is easier to get here in the Netherlands though, it seems. I don't mind it being slower, I just need to transfer ~50 disks.

I got a pi1541 disk emulator so I can run those crazy european PAL demos on my 1983 NA C64 with a Vic II kawari small board.
It was getting old writing to real floppies with a ZoomFloppy board.

No worries! If you want to DM me an email address I can send you the files. I backed them up using a ZoomFloppy and they all seemed to transfer error free but obviously they will need testing and checking to ensure everything works.

Long weekends were meant for projects.
And I have good news and bad news on the C64 side.
I was able to install ZoomFloppy and the CBMX stuff.
However, I've discovered that my two 1541 drives are both faulty in different ways. So away goes this project, but at least there are troubleshoot vids.

So I'm aiming to use my real 1541c, but I have to dig into the opencbm documentation to make sure I can address sectors beyond #35 so I can write from my PC using my ZoomFloppy I bought ages ago. I also have to wait for a VIC-II Kawari to arrive from Ireland to run PAL things..

If you have a CMD FD-2000 or FD-4000 drive that constantly has data being updated and added to it what do you find is the best and easiest way to back it up on the regular? ZoomFloppy, using U64/C64U VR drives?

My ZoomFloppy is working well at dumping my Commodore 64 disks but my 1541-II drive gets tired after a few disks and won’t read any more. I think the drive is on its death bed.

Unfortunately not, the device connects to the C64 - but you can create a network connection between it and a PC/Macbook to send files I believe. For connecting a 1541-II, something like a Greaseweazle or ZoomFloppy device would do the trick - though not sure if they work with Mac devices.
