⭐ Eclipsing binary XZ Andromedae "winks" in NASA's Astronomy Picture of the Day. The light curve was made by Ogetay Kayali with Citizen Astronomy, an open-source differential photometry tool: it identifies field stars via Gaia DR3 and VSX, fits periods and exports AAVSO-ready reports […]

🔭 Saw this release from AAVSO - mag 7.3 nova in Sagitta - N Sge 2026 - first found in outburst less than 24 hours ago. This will be an easy target (though a very crowded field) for northern hemisphere observers, and still decently high for southern hemisphere

A second AAVSO MyNewsFlash just now, same observer, reported magnitude 4.1.

According to an AAVSO MyNewsFlash, the Blaze Star T CrB, in Coronae Borealis, may finally have gone nova again. This single report puts it at magnitude 3.1. Between eruptions (on a roughly 80-year period) the star sits at magnitude 10.2. In previous eruptions, in 1866 and 1946, it has brightened […]

Liverpool Telescope Autonomously Classifies Live Nova in Taurus in Days
Liverpool Telescope nova spectrum data published today confirm Nova Tau 2026 as a classical Fe II-type nova that brightened 25,000-fold in one week, captured autonomously by a 2-metre robotic SPRAT spectrograph with zero human intervention -- the AAVSO now wants binocular photometry from amateur observers worldwide.

On 2026-06-20 I remotely obtained a spectrum of T CrB using the 2-m Liverpool Telescope and submitted to the AAVSO: apps.aavso.org/avspec/obs/2...
The intensity of the Hα line appears the same as in 2024.

If I ever wind up with a permanent home observatory, I’m planning on doing some variable star automated observation for AAVSO. That’ll require some photometry equipment that’ll have to be maintained in calibration, so I’ll be joining him…
