We’ve left you hanging long enough since our collaborations with WOW Film Festival and Cardiff Animation Festival in the spring, so while we’re still ironing out the final details we thought we’d share what we’ve got coming up in Aberystwyth over the autumn!

Abertoir’s not-so-fallow year revealed! - Abertoir
It’s been several months since we shared the news that we’d be doing things a bit differently in 2026. We shared that we were taking it down a notch, that

And then 'Monolith', a really interesting mystery thriller with sci-fi horror flavouring, was something that I initially was super into, but ultimately it didn't offer a satisfying conclusion. Otherwise? Pretty cool! letterboxd.com/1thestickman...
Review of ‘Monolith’ (2022) ★★★
-ABERTOIR 2023 SCREENING (Online Edition) - The last screening for this years online Abertoir, and a pretty good one at that. A good one, that eventually devolves into something a little less good,…

'Humanist Vampire Seeking Consenting Suicidal Person', a offbeat vampire dramedy was a fun enough watch, but I can't help but feel I've seen the same (VERY similar) sorta thing done better in other films.

Review of ‘Humanist Vampire Seeking Consenting Suicidal Person’ (2023) ★★★
-ABERTOIR 2023 SCREENING (Online Edition) - Another solid but not particularly inspiring entry in the 'quirky vampire coming of age dramedy' canon. It's...okay? But not especially amazing either.…

Second day of Abertoir brought mixed fruits. 'The Moor', a slowburn psychological thriller maybe burned a bit TOO slow, for something that didn't have much to say. Wasn't terrible, and the ending is fun, but I was a little bored in the middle.

Review of ‘The Moor’ (2023) ★★½
-ABERTOIR 2023 SCREENING (Online Edition) - If there's one form of modern horror that has really caught on in recent years, it's the downbeat slowburn mood piece. There are really good ones, there…

Also saw 'Red Rooms', which was pretty great. A very bleak and disturbing psychological thriller that deals with peoples fascination with crime/killers. Maybe it could've been a bit more conclusive in parts, but largely? BANGER.

Review of ‘Red Rooms’ (2023) ★★★½
-ABERTOIR 2023 SCREENING (Online Edition) - Woah nelly. Although I didn't know much about this film going into the screening, I did know it was one of the favourites from the in-person event, so…

Watched 'Psychosis' at Abertoir Online. Its got stylish trippy visual for days, but it really was lacking much in the way of substance or engaging characters. Don't watch this if you have motion sickness, I reckon. letterboxd.com/1thestickman...
Review of ‘Psychosis’ (2023) ★★½
-ABERTOIR 2023 SCREENING (Online Edition) - Feeling a bit mixed on this one. I deliberately didn't look into any of the films screening at this years online Abertoir. I'd already paid for…

Taking part in Abertoir Horror Festival's online programme again this year. A hearty fuck you to whoever at Eventive decided, after 3 years of use, that suddenly my computer was not allowed to use their service any more. Thankfully I have a house full of back-up devices. Still, fuck you, Eventive!

Saw ANYTHING FOR JACKSON at Abertoir horror fest, loved it. How about about another festival fave, Australian horror RELIC (2020)?

Yes, I saw you’d been involved in the design. I gave a seminar to coincide with the screening of Wyrm at the Abertoir festival last year - another belter!

Kinda looking at Abertoir film festival as an option next year. Is it 4 or 6 days though?

Worth checking if it is screening at some of the other UK genre fests in Oct/Nov (Grimmfest, Mayhem, Celluloid Screams, Abertoir, etc.). I'm not sure...

Stellar line-up at Abertoir this year. FAB Press will be there. Come and say hello. And if you can only put aside one day we’d strongly suggest the Friday, which will be crowned with an epic Simon Boswell stage production, full live band, projections, light show and all.
Just ONE WEEK TO GO ‘til Abertoir 2025! Time for a roll-call – who’s joining us for 5 days? Or perhaps 1 or 2? Or a handful of films? Let us know below!

In a week’s time we’ll be kicking things off with an opening reception at 4pm before opening with The Bride of Frankenstein in all her glory.
