The specks on strawberries are not seeds, but are actually fruits, called achenes. Each achene houses one seed.

The red tasty thing you eat is an accessory to these fruits.

Like a delicious handbag.

Dandelions are compound flowers - each head comprises a couple of hundred tiny florets, each producing a dry fruit (check "achene") with its own parachute. 🌿

…and the fruit of Common Ragwort is an achene - dry, indehiscent, and one-seeded - about 2mm long. 😉

Some birds readily eat dandelion fruits - American Goldfinches and Field Sparrows are the only ones I've photographed actually doing this. 🌿

I wrote an article showing some of the technical challenges we're tackling while building Achene. A technical solution that makes video transcription viable on Achene for every tier from £5 upwards, at no extra cost.

They're just an accessory to fruit, and have terrible achene.

Strawberries are botanical fruits, but they are not berries.

The edible flesh is an “accessory fruit” and each seed is an individual achene fruit.

Back to the Asteraceae this one from the Astereae tribe, the second largest tribe in the family! #Lagenophora huegelii is a rosetted perennial, with small flowers with short petals, often called the Bottle Daisy as its achene look like hot water bottles!

#Lagenophora huegelii, Western Australian Bottle-Daisy! These cute little daisies have a rosette that looks similar at first glance to some weedy specie bit once they flower there no mistaking! Their s achene fruit looks roughly like an urn or flask hence the common and scientific name!

not as achene as it will be

The "seed" on the outside is technically a fruit (botanically speaking), it's called an achene

Renewal Of Commitments underway. Offline through end of year. But before turning off the feeds, a small release -- this was the project I intended to deliver from August to end of year.

A bit of #MementoMori I suppose. Still writing them, just can't afford tooling to make demos.🖖 #QuantumPunk

The solid core at the center of a California Sycamore (Platanus racemosa) seed ball is rather beautiful and intricate. Each of those irregularly shaped patches was the attachment point for a seed.
