#ADHD isn't laziness. It's battling executive dysfunction, fighting the guilt, and finding a way to move forward anyway.

#ADHD IS NOT becoming more common

"Lead researcher Dr Alex Martin said it was likely to be a case of under-diagnosis of the condition in the first place."

That is what we ourselves keep saying. There are a lot of adults around the world struggling, not being recognised as ADHDers.

Greater awareness behind ADHD surge, study suggests
Study found ADHD is not becoming more common, despite a surge in people being diagnosed.

They’re not “lazy” or “difficult.” They’re navigating a world that isn’t always designed for their brains. Let’s create spaces where they feel seen, supported, and celebrated. 🌍 #ADHDAcceptance

MYTH: ADHD is bad behavior.
TRUTH: It’s neurodevelopmental.

When we label ADHDers as "difficult," we miss what’s really going on: impulse control challenges, time blindness, executive function struggles.

Different ≠ defiant.

Introducing the real two-headed giant!
October is both #ADHDacceptance month, moving the narrative for #ADHD beyond "awareness," and #Auctober, an alternative to April's misinformation-laden minefield for #ActuallyAutistic folks.

Let the infodumping commence!

#ADHDacceptance Day 18:
Someday...

I want to see education that truly accepts neurodiversity instead of lip-service. Students aren’t berated for doodling during lectures. Executive dysfunction isn’t mistaken for effort or caring.
…and instead of “special needs,” we accommodate Human needs.

☝🏻 And in true ADHD fashion, I didn't include any tags because they don't light up blue here.

#ADHDacceptance Day 31:
Acceptance Means...

Understand that most of what you know about any differences in humanity, from race to gender to neurotype to disability are misinformation from those in power...
Then believe in HUMAN experiences and needs without judgement.

Different =/= inferior.

#ADHDacceptance Day 3:
Identification/Self-Discovery Story

For over a decade, I had been living the non-acceptance "I'm just quirky, tee-hee" autistic life. Then COVID, burnout, and unmasking.
When I stopped masking autism, the ADHD I'd been rawdoggging my whole life was painfully obvious. 1/2

#ADHDacceptance Day 6:
Supports & Appreciation

As a late-identified neurodivergent adult, I've never had any formal support, only family. Mom picking up the forgotten object so I wouldn't get yelled at. My wife sending text reminders about critical appointments. I would be lost without them.

What I love about being an ADHDer is...

"Letting the dog off the leash."
The near-manic high from intense focus on a preferred activity or absolute lack of inhibition when geeking out with other neurodivergent folks feels like a humming nuclear reactor inside me.

#ADHDacceptance Day 1:
Introduction

I'm 🙋🏻‍♂️. Y'all can read a bio, but the short-short version is, I'm an 18-year AuDHD SpEd/Math teacher with two young, also autistic kids (one AuDHD). I like Magic, Minecraft, and Battletech.

Favorite ADHD-Owned Business

Slight cheat this time. My good friend recently left the world of bureaucratic office space behind to provide ND-positive flexibility so he can have a props/crafts creation studio and I am so proud of him!
Keep an eye out for SoulTrinket Studios 😁

#ADHDacceptance Day 10:
"Sensory Seeking/Aversion"

It's impossible to uncouple AuDHD here (any monotropism fans?), but since unmasking I am far more aversive than seeking. Hyperaccussis (intense pain from sound) is my world.
BUT
*My* music, compression, & tactile stimming are a way of life.

#ADHDacceptance Day 25:
Symbols

A rainbow infinity represents all neurodiversity, & is molded to a butterfly for ADHD to symbolize the flitting nature of stimulus/executive function.

Care must be taken with symbols because they can be made/used without community consent in abusive, ableist ways.

#ADHDacceptance Day 24:
ADHD Political Issue

Misinformation is rampant & weaponized for rage politics. This means a renewed push to demonize ADHD and its medications as fake, unnecessary, or caused by a list of unrelated environmental factors, leading to severe problems accessing dx and care.

#ADHDacceptance Day 20:
Communication Style

Burst-transmission!
Executive dysfunction makes interrupting is just as much an accommodation as a “deficit” bc, if we don’t get the thought out now, it's Lost Forever.
There’s also 100 connected
thoughts/details, so we tend to infodump when stimulated.

#ADHDacceptance Day 27:
Identity Language

There are two primary forms of address:
●Person-first (person with ADHD; attribute of person) ●Identity-first (ADHD person or ADHDer; integral to person's identity).

The ADHD community is an (ironically) unstructured mix of takes on these, so always ask!

#ADHDacceptance Day 7:
The ADHDer Community

Like so many ADHD & other ND folks, it has not been the established medical or educational systems that helped me… it’s others like me.
The ADHD community is, full of experts & knowledge. Self-identification & sharing experiences is all many of us have.
