I miss Aertel, and I miss Ceefax. Aertel was better, though.

I've found myself especially missing it recently, sitting on the couch thinking I'd like a quick read of the news without venturing online.

You can't doomscroll teletext!!
BBC Ceefax launched #OTD 1974, as the world's first teletext service.
Ceefax stood for "see-facts".
BBC engineers Geoff Larkby and Barry Pyatt designed the system. They used "spare" invisible lines at the top of the standard 625-line television signal to transmit blocks of text and numbers.

🟩 TELETEXT | On This Day 1995 | Aertel reports that a consortium with plans to create a third national Irish TV channel will meet with the IRTC to discuss further.

The venture would be a partnership with UTV.

I'll say one thing though, it's much faster than Aertel ever was!

Checking the scores every five minutes. R.I.P. Aertel

This website is ok but I’m still not too sure if it can replace Aertel.

Miriam O Callaghan. Lobby of Dundrum cinema. She misread the film times on Aertel. I told her then she either misread them or RTE published them wrong.

Her; RTE are never wrong

That was me told
Right folks. Feeling rather down at the moment so bringing back an oldie

First day back and 47 goals scored in LOI WU17! Two games still in action.

Keep up with all the scores by downloading FAI Connect app. It's like Aertel but better 👇

I can accept fax machines. Just. But I still don’t understand how you could open up aertel (Irish teletext) on your TV, call a 1800 number on your landline, and the man control the aertel on the TV to look up train times using the landline.
Dark magic for sure!

Is Aertel down for anyone else?

- Aertel, Network 2, pages 440 and 450
- Rewind that tape before you return it
- Work hard, get an education and treat people with respect, and life will be better
- Blow on the cartridge if the game doesn't boot

We should hand the reins to autistic working-class lads whose brains were cooked decades ago by Aertel and cheap PS1 rentals, I think.
we've seen the damage rich dudes who've cooked their brains online can do to the world, Im submitting a motion that only poors be allowed to post

It boggles the mind to think that we had/could have that, as recently as my teens in rural Cork, and it was the norm.

An hour of internet a week in the library; Aertel; print mags, papers, radio, telly; text messaging and even letters/care packages as a hobby. Not even 20 years ago. #spéirghorm

With Hilco/HMV arrogantly refusing to sell me the Xtravision IP/trademarks, or answer my emails to that effect, I suppose I will now have to privatise Aertel.
October 2, 2023 at 9:53 PM
Imagine trying to explain Aertel to kids.
Well it was a text information thing on the telly, but if you missed the page you wanted for checking airport arrivals you'd have to sit and wait until it showed up again.

Never mind the talking clock!

I'm so old.

It was a wonder of the pre-internet age. CEEFAX started in 1974.

In Ireland out teletext service was AERTEL. It didn't shutdown until Oct '23! My mum used to still use it to check flight arrival times in preference to the internet.
