The deal also included 41 prisoners released in the 2011 Wafa al- Ahrar deal, who were re-arrested by the occupation in 2014.
Thirteen veteran prisoners (pre-Oslo Accords)were released as part of the Al-Agsa Flood deal, leaving nine remaining in prison.
The occupation refused to release internal prisoners and leaders of the prisoner movement despite arduous negotiations, most notably Marwan and Abdullah Barghouti, Abas al-Sayed, and Hassan Salameh.

The Shaw Commission saved its star witness for the end of its hearings, waiting until December to bring in the mufti.
They had already heard from a long list of Jewish leaders who blamed him for the riots, and from British officials who claimed they had done everything within their limited resources to pre-

W. H. Stoker, did not believe it was fab-ricated. Stoker, the former colonial judge representing the Palestine Arab Execu-tive, assured the commission, "Certain people who did not like the book being published said it was a forgery"28

Israel has kept the Al-Agsa Mosque compound closed to Muslim Palestinian worshippers for more than 13 consecutive days during Ramadan, preventing prayers at one of Islam's holiest sites.
Israel closed the mosque under the pretext of “security concerns” after launching military strikes against Iran on 28 February 2026.
For Palestinians and Muslims worldwide, shutting Al-Agsa during Ramadan is
direct attack on freedom of worship and religious practices, and part of wider efforts to Judaize Al-Quds and alter the status of its holy sites.

thecradlemedia In January, Israel alleged that Palestinian members of UNRWA's staff participated in the resistance's Operation Al-Agsa Flood on 7 October, leading the US and 18 other nations to swiftly suspend funding for the organization.
The suspensions were met with shock, as UNRWA plays a key role in providing food and medicine to starving Gazans struggling to survive Israel's siege and bombardment of the coastal enclave.

However, Israel's allegations are not based on any evidence. They are instead part of a classified plan prepared in advance by Israel's foreign ministry to destroy UNRWA. It believes that UNRWA "works against Israel's interests" by perpetuating the dream of the right of return of Palestinian refugees and the idea of armed struggle against occupation.
The foreign ministry plan leaked to Israel's Channel 12 on 28 December, set out a three-stage process to eliminate UNRWA in Gaza, using the Hamas-led resistance operation as a pretext:
First, prepare a case alleging UNRWA's cooperation with Hamas; second, reduce UNRWA's field of activity and find replacement service providers; and third, transfer UNRWA's responsibilities to another entity.
