I have a lot of thoughts about Gaius's preferences and how that meshes with Albi, and that's a big part of Albael, but not in a way I feel I can ever succinctly define. Gender (toxic)

Artwork of Thancred and Albi, in the style of a photograph. Text reads "Greetings from Berlin!". Thancred is taking a selfie of the two toasting beers. Albi is eating a Bavarian pretzel Artwork of Gaius and Albi in Disneyland, in the style of a photograph. Text reads "Greetings from Anaheim!". Albi is perusing lightsabers in Galaxy's Edge, while Gaius casts a glance at a Darth Vader helmet (he thinks that guy looks lame)

Two sketches of Gaius. In one, Gaius fusses mid-action scene with a bullet in his mouth and his hair in his face. In the other, Albi is gripping his face while he smirks (#albael I guess)

Galaxy’s Edge was so much fun!! I love Star Wars!!!

I was joking when I said I was only going to Disney for this, but I did in fact spend the entire day just there (and with bonus @melshardae.bsky.social!)

El veredicto ya está dado. No será ciencia. No será deliberación.

Suena bien. Se oye serio. Suena ...

A charm point between these two is their race to the bottom over their greying hair. Unfortunately they both know Albi is currently winning (losing?) because one of them is ageing appropriately, while the other is a stressed chainsmoking workaholic who keeps blowing herself up #albael
“This is not the place for someone like you to stay overlong.” Gaius replies, the choice of his words sounding sterner than the tone of his voice. “Not unless you wish to retire from the adventuring life to settle down and grow old somewhere.” Head still turned downwards, Albi’s face slopes into a wan smile. It was not such a terrible thought. “One day. I can only hope.” Gaius breaks the sudden moment of sincerity, as if the candour didn’t agree with him. “Considering how grey your hair is growing, that day may not be so far off.” Albi makes a show of rolling her eyes, unsure whether to feel relief or exasperation at the pivot in tone, but her smile falters little with the motion. “Speak to me like that, and perhaps I’ll choose to settle down in Sharlayan, instead.” “That would certainly result in a victory for the grey hairs.” He contemplates, which does finally droop Albi’s face into a grimace.

While I wouldn't use those words to describe these two, here's them truly meeting face-to-face for the first time. A fit of pique vs. piqued interest #albiart #albael
Three panels, showing Albi, Gaius, and a closeup of Gaius's mask on the dunes of The Burn. Albi has an expression that is a mix of shocked anger, while Gaius regards her with a more relaxed gaze

I've always wanted to put him in blue, but I feel there's few scenarios where he'd accept a new coat. Sweeping both of their hairs back a little more... charming... #albiart #albael
Loose sketches of Albi and Gaius. Albi is dressed in an open white collared shirt, and a leather jacket with a fur collar. Gaius is dressed in a smart blue coat, with a dark waistcoat. There is a wristwatch on his right wrist (which Albi made for him!)

I never remember that Albi's nameday is also pocky day in time to draw something for that, too... here's some old sketches from 2022 the one time I did remember #albiart #albicred #albael
A rough sketch from 2022, of Thancred dangling a piece of pocky up towards an amused Albi. Their eyes are hidden, and the atmosphere is mirthful. A rough sketch from 2022, of Albi leaning towards Gaius, a cigarette in her hand. She has just lit a cigarette for him, too. (It's the closest they'll get to pocky)

Two panel artwork. Gaius is stood among the bright, colourful, coastal flowers of Werlyt. Albi is stood in a very drab, dark Garlemald scene, a few wildflowers at her feet. It almost gives the impression of the incorrect character in each locale.
