Note that aldosterone escape refers to escape from the effects of aldosterone under some conditions

And aldosterone breakthrough is the term for continued aldosterone production despite renin-angiotensin blockade
Aldosterone escape effect:
Classic RAAS blockers can’t fully shut down aldosterone production.
Braxdrostat in the BrightHTN showed SBP reduction, PRA suppresion and no cortisol suppresion #NephJC @nephmadness.bsky.social 2025

Recent research shows that even moderate amounts, like someone with a favorite licorice tea or love for Swedish licorice lozenges can trigger changes like blood pressure increases and longer-term changes in aldosterone-to-renin ratio (ARR).

A low dose of daily licorice intake affects renin, aldosterone, and home blood pressure in a randomized crossover trial
Licorice, through the effects of glycyrrhizic acid (GA), raises blood pressure (BP). The World Health Organization has suggested that 100 mg GA/d woul…

I like this RCT design in particular because it was open to both uncontrolled not-yet-resistant AND resistant hypertensive patients, opening to door to prescribe it as an earlier line agent

-cortisol
-aldosterone
-17,20-lyase
-17α-hydroxylase
