@raskin.house.gov and I exposed ExxonMobil’s massive “algae biofuel” ad blitz—which they spent more on than the research itself.

Today I saw one of the weirdest and coolest sea slugs I've ever seen and it was in New Hampshire. This is Elysia chlorotica, a slug that eats algae and steals its chloroplasts to use for photosynthesis. Yes, this slug is solar powered!

The Maldives islands are surrounded by coral reefs that act as barriers resulting in calmer water free from stirred-up sediments. Maldives water is also clearer because it is free from algae and other pollutants.

The algae scam was one episode uncovered in a sprawling investigation conducted by @raskin.house.gov 's House Oversight Committee and my Senate Budget Committee back in 2024.

Millions of pages documenting decades of denial and doublespeak from Big Oil.

In the past, I have made post ascribing this behaviour to the algae octopus (Abdopus aculeatus), however this is a common misconception. This behaviour instead belongs to an undescribed species in the same genus.
Cephalopods are aquatic creatures, but this undescribed Abdopus species bends the rules a bit.

Octopus can survive for a little while out of water, but the species is the only one known to regularly go on dry land, crawling from tide pool to tide pool in search of prey.

I just discovered that one of my favorite places to visit in New Jersey has octopuses by the jetty in late summer and fall!! What?!

(By the way, we think the mystery meal below is probably a skate rather than an octopus)
