I took this image of the 63% waxing moon on October 19th. I much prefer partial moon phases to the full moon because the shadows along the terminator show off some extra texture.

Today, four F-35 Lightning IIs did a flyover at Gillette Stadium for a football game, but not before we got several flyovers of our house while they were waiting for showtime. This was my first time testing out plane autofocus mode on my camera 😁

This dive from May started with a ripped neck seal, but the underwater life made it so worth it:

Not sure on the jelly species but there are at least two different parasite species on it. On the trail of a horseshoe crab Halopsis ocellata (I think) Onchidoris bilamellata pile with eggs. I think there are 5.

Today I saw one of the weirdest and coolest sea slugs I've ever seen and it was in New Hampshire. This is Elysia chlorotica, a slug that eats algae and steals its chloroplasts to use for photosynthesis. Yes, this slug is solar powered!

In honor of Indigenous People's Day, here is a 0.5s exposure of the fountains outside the National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C. This is a nice museum with interesting exhibits. Definitely worth a visit!

Throwing it back to my first attempt at Andromeda back in 2021. This is 10 x 4s exposures captured with my Canon T3 + 75-300mm kit lens + tripod + intervalometer. I've stepped up my game since! I am currently working on a 4-panel LRGB mosaic of Andromeda 😀

Here’s a fang blenny peeking out of an encrusted bottle. Don't let that goofy smile fool you - they pack a venomous bite for defense! The venom drops makes the predator's muscles go limp, letting the blenny swim right out of its mouth!

I heard a pileated woodpecker across the water while I was wandering around a local pond. I waited and it flew across the water and landed on the back of a nearby tree, sat there for 30 seconds, and then took off. Next time!

I've been on the hunt for a pileated woodpecker. I've seen a few flying around, but never had my camera. This one flew right over me, landed on the back of this tree, and then took off far away. Doh! Look at those talons for gripping though.

This is a pair of solitary sandpipers. Seems like a bit of a misnomer if you ask me. I watched around 8 of them hopping around on the lily pads picking little bugs off the surface.

Found this Japanese Beetle perched on a cone flower. The metallic texture of these insects is wild. They are invasive, but so very pretty!

A jelly dive from early May! This was a wild year for jellies with a big variety in the spring giving way to huge numbers of Lion's Mane later in spring into summer. Taken at Old Garden Beach in Rockport, MA.

Beroes comb jelly in the water column. These jellies actually open up from the top side and "swallow" other jellies. Salps look like a very long jellyfish, but they are actually an attached chain of many individual organisms moving around together to feed. The ones we saw ranged from a few inches to a few feet long. We saw several different species of jelly in the water column. I believe this one is Halopsis ocellata. I believe this is Catablema vesicarium, but it is a new species to me. I've never seen these before but there were a bunch of them around on this dive and a few other divers also spotted them this year.

UPDATE: Bats! 🦇🦇🦇 We've lived here for 7 years and only occasionally seen a single solitary bat. Tonight we had at least 3! Very exciting as we have plenty of mosquitoes for them to devour.
