The Greens are a big, diverse family, some dark, some light, some in between. I'm glad they all live here.
🌱📷
The striated leaves of Alpinia zerumbet, shell ginger, are a great counterpart to the solid, darker foliage of their bright-plumed red cousin, Alpinia purpurata. Familial coexistence around my driveway.

Pinch one of the festive leaves, sniff your fingers and you'll know in an instant that Alpinia is a member of the ginger family. It's a great accent plant. 🌱📷
Long leaves with creamy striations are a hallmark of Alpinia zerumbet, aka shell ginger.

made a little creature based on an alpinia plant :3 first time working with colored pencils in years!! felt so nice ❤️
photo of a traditional pen sketch colored in with colored pencils. it depicts a small green 6-legged critter covered in red petal-like appendages that mimic an alpinia plant. its eyes are black & bulbous & it has a long, curled snout like an elephant's trunk. a photo of an alpinia plant flower

Although I have # this as a flower it is in fact a Bract and has small white flowers at the top of the bract . The Bract is pink and stands out against a background of large green leaves.
