Surrounded by tendrils of wet green moss, a small Amanita muscaria is dripped on by light rain in a dark forest. Its stipe is white and roughly textured. Its bright red cap is round, almost spherical, and is covered in pointy, raised, and dull yellow bumps. 📷 Canon R5 Canon RF 100mm f/2.8L IS USM M, f/4, 1/50, ISO 400 Stack of 16 images 11/14/24 Northern Oregon Coast

A red and white mushroom grows in dark soil on a cold, wet day in November. While young in its life, its rough white stipe already stands about three inches tall and is a little over an inch thick near the base, which tapers a bit as it reaches the cap. The bright red cap is spherical since it hasn't matured and unfurled yet. The cap is covered in spiky white bumps. A single thick drop of water rests just beneath the cap on the stipe. 📷 Canon R5 Canon RF 100mm f/2.8L IS USM M, f/4, 1/8, ISO 400 Stack of 14 images 11/15/24 Northern Oregon Coast

A large mushroom stands surrounded by bright green moss. This youngish mushroom, Amanita augusta, has a thick yellow stipe which is about three inches tall. Eventually, it will likely grow taller by a few inches. Its very large and domelike cap is a lightish brown color. On the edge of the cap in the front and on the right side, a bumpy yellow substance covers the mushroom, almost like the top of coffee cake. This bumpy substance is left behind by the veil that covers it when it's just starting to grow. 📷 Canon R5 Canon RF 100mm f/2.8L IS USM M, f/4, 1/8, ISO 400 Stack of 24 images 11/17/24 Northern Oregon Coast

This Amanita muscaria gives me conehead vibes 😆 even if it has a funny shape, the colors on its cap are still beautiful!

Emerging from a slope covered in bright green, thick moss, a large Amanita muscaria shines after a brief rain in early winter. Its stipe is very thick, measuring almost two inches wide, and stands just less than four inches tall before the edge of the cap. The cap is tall and narrow for an Amanita, mostly because it hasn't fully matured yet and opened up. The cap is a beautiful range of reddish-orange and dark red and, mostly on the lower half, is covered in white, pointy spots. 📷 Canon R5 Canon RF 100mm f/2.8L IS USM M, f/4, 1/10, ISO 400 Stack of 11 images 11/17/24 Northern Oregon Coast

A very large brown-capped mushroom grows on sloped, mossy ground. This Amanita augusta has a tall and thick stipe, standing roughly eight to ten inches tall. A few inches below where the cap and stipe meet, a curled ring of yellow mushroom flesh appears. Its cap is dome-like, light brown around the edges and darker brown at the top, and is covered in gray and yellow bumps. 📷 Canon R5 Canon RF 100mm f/2.8L IS USM M, f/4, 1/4, ISO 400 Stack of 12 images 11/17/24 Northern Oregon Coast
