🆕 Amazon WorkSpaces adds observability metrics in CloudWatch for free, offering deeper insights into virtual desktop performance via network, compute, and storage data to aid troubleshooting and alarm setup. Available globally.

#AWS #AwsGovcloudUs #AmazonWorkspaces
Amazon WorkSpaces now publishes enhanced observability metrics
Amazon WorkSpaces now publishes additional performance and session health metrics to Amazon CloudWatch, enabling IT administrators to gain deeper visibility into their virtual desktop workloads. These new metrics span network performance, compute and storage resource utilization, and session lifecycle events — all available at no additional cost. With these metrics, administrators can proactively identify and troubleshoot issues that impact end-user experience. For example, TCP retransmission rate and congestion window help pinpoint network degradation, GPU usage and CPU queue length surface compute bottlenecks, and storage metrics like disk I/O queue lengths and memory page hard faults provide visibility into disk saturation and memory pressure. Administrators can set CloudWatch alarms for rapid detection of performance issues, build custom dashboards for fleet-wide visibility, and reduce mean time to resolution. These metrics are available in all AWS Regions where Amazon WorkSpaces is supported. To get started, navigate to the Amazon CloudWatch console and observe these metrics or update your WorkSpaces custom dashboards. You can also monitor these metrics through WorkSpaces automatic dashboard. To learn more, visit the Amazon WorkSpaces documentation and the CloudWatch metrics reference.

🆕 Announcing Idle Disconnect Timeout for Amazon WorkSpaces

#AWS #AmazonWorkspaces #AwsGovcloudUs #NiceDcv
Announcing Idle Disconnect Timeout for Amazon WorkSpaces
Amazon WorkSpaces now supports Idle Disconnect Timeout for Windows WorkSpaces Personal with the Amazon DCV protocol. WorkSpaces administrators can now configure how long a user can be inactive while connected to a personal WorkSpace, before they are disconnected. This setting is already available for WorkSpaces Pools, but this launch includes end user notifications for idle users, warning that their session will be disconnected soon, for both Personal and Pools. Idle Disconnect Timeout helps Amazon WorkSpaces administrators better optimize costs and resources for their fleet. This feature helps ensure that customers who pay for their resources hourly are only paying for the WorkSpaces that are actually in use. The notifications also provide improved overall user experience for both Personal and Pools end users, by warning them about the pending disconnection and giving them a chance to continue or save their work beforehand. Idle Disconnect Timeout is available at no additional cost for Windows WorkSpaces running DCV, in all the AWS Regions where WorkSpaces is currently available. To get started with Amazon WorkSpaces, see Getting Started with Amazon WorkSpaces. To enable this feature, you must be using Windows WorkSpaces Personal DCV host agent version 2.1.0.1554 or later. Your users must be on WorkSpaces Windows or macOS client versions 5.24 or later, WorkSpaces Linux client version 2024.7 or later, or on Web Access. Refer to the client version release notes for more details. To learn more, visit Manage your Windows WorkSpaces in the Amazon WorkSpaces Administrator Guide.

🆕 Amazon WorkSpaces for AI agents lets AI securely run desktop apps in the cloud. It features automation, real-time control, and domain-joined support, with pricing based on session time. For details, visit Amazon WorkSpaces for AI agents.

#AWS #AmazonWorkspaces #AmazonAppstream20
Announcing general availability of Amazon WorkSpaces for AI agents
Amazon WorkSpaces for agents is now generally available, enabling AI agents to securely access and operate desktop applications through managed WorkSpaces environments. Enterprises run critical business processes on desktop applications (ERP systems, CRMs, mainframes, and proprietary tools) where years of customization, undocumented logic, and strict compliance requirements make them too critical to abandon and costly to modernize. WorkSpaces for agentsnow gives AI agents a managed cloud workspace where they can see the screen and operate these applications the way humans do, without requiring application modernization or custom integrations. WorkSpaces uses the same infrastructure for agents as organizations have trusted for over a decade to deliver secure, managed desktops at scale. Agents inherit the same identity controls, network isolation, and compliance boundaries as human users, so organizations gain automation without giving up governance. Organizations can automate workflows such as claims processing, patient record updates, trade settlement, and back-office operations. The service works with any agent framework using Model Context Protocol (MCP), and pricing scales based on active session time. Since launching in Preview, customer and partner feedback has shaped new capabilities. MCP tool forwarding allows agents to interact with applications and the desktop operating system through direct MCP calls rather than using computer use tools, improving accuracy, reducing latency, and lowering cost. Real-time session control gives operators live visibility into agent activity with the ability to revoke access mid-session. Domain-joined fleet support lets agents operate under existing Active Directory identities, extending the same access policies and audit attribution that apply to employees. To learn more, visit Amazon WorkSpaces for AI agents. To get started building, see the documentation and sample code on GitHub.

Amazon WorkSpaces announces USB redirection support for DCV WorkSpaces
AWS announces USB redirection support for WorkSpaces running Amazon DCV protocol, enabling users to access locally connected USB devices from their virtual desktop environments. With this feature, customers can now connect a wide range of USB peripherals to their virtual desktops, including credit card readers, 3D mice, and other specialized devices. USB redirection addresses the need for direct access to USB devices that require specialized drivers or lack dedicated protocols. This capability is currently limited to WorkSpaces Personal with Windows desktops accessed from Windows client devices. Performance and device compatibility may vary, so testing with your specific USB peripherals is recommended before adding them to the allowlist. This feature is available in all AWS Regions where Amazon WorkSpaces is offered. #AWS #AmazonWorkspaces
Amazon WorkSpaces now lets AI agents operate desktop applications (Preview)
Amazon WorkSpaces, AWS's fully managed cloud desktop service, now enables AI agents to securely access and operate desktop applications through managed WorkSpaces environments. Many enterprises run critical business processes on desktop applications—mainframes, ERP systems, and proprietary tools—that lack modern APIs, creating a "last-mile challenge" for AI agents. WorkSpaces now allows organizations to automate everyday workflows at scale while maintaining full enterprise-grade governance and compliance. AI agents built on any framework and running anywhere—cloud-hosted, on-premises, or hybrid—can now connect to business applications with minimal code using industry-standard Model Context Protocol (MCP) integration. Builders gain fast time-to-value without standing up new infrastructure, while IT administrators maintain centralized permissions, logging, and auditing controls identical to human WorkSpaces environments. Enterprise observability features including screenshots and metrics provide full visibility into agent activities. Organizations can automate workflows spanning claims processing, trade settlement, candidate screening, and back-office operations across financial services, healthcare, and other regulated industries—all without requiring application modernization. WorkSpaces delivers secure environments where agents can point, click, and navigate on desktop applications just like humans. With pay-as-you-go pricing and elastic scale built on AWS's global infrastructure, enterprises reduce IT overhead while expanding what's possible when people and AI work together.
