I mean, what's the point then of getting a multi-million dollar contract if you can't have a room in your house dedicated to your very cute amelanistic Burmese python.

Well, both boo and yay: I finally heard back from the ISPCA, and that was to tell me that Biscuits the amelanistic royal/ball python was adopted last week.

Sadly our local Frosted Elfin (Callophrys irus) population is either gone or severely diminished. First photo shows a Frosted Elfin and ant sipping from a lupine flower stem. Third photo is an amelanistic/aberrant female. Lucas County, Ohio.

World's best, most innocent girl who would definitely never ever bite anyone (not ever)

My impression until today has been that people who don't want to learn to spell/pronounce "amelanistic" call them "albino" and the people who can rattle off "amelanistic, anerythistic, and hypoxanthic" don't care.
July 16, 2026 at 12:09 PM
Huh. I think I've always heard albino used as a synonym for amelanistic in reptiles.
July 16, 2026 at 11:51 AM
That's an albino (amelanistic). The yellow isn't melanin. They do come in pure white also, probably called snow or blizzard or similar (I haven't paid attention in a while).

Nroc takes drugs to cope with being in Hell

She looks like an amelanistic corn snake paints over her scales to hide the patterns

She developed into her style of punk closer to her 20s

She started abusing drugs to cope with an abusive situation (haven’t picked what yet)

White crows can develop vision problems making it difficult to find food and starve to death. Hope’s feathers aren’t pure white. A vet diagnosed her as amelanistic. She has no melanin to produce black feathers.

Summarized from The Washington Post “Rare #whitecrow rescued after ‘dive bombed’ by other #crows in Virginia” by Cathy Free, July 18, 2024
Crows are social and need their family for protection from predators. A white crow being on its alone would have little chance of surviving in the wild.
