Different animal altogether. Bachia are in the teiid family, Scheltopusiks are on another continent and in the Anguidae.

Love slow worms. I'm a vertebrate paleontologist (you can check my other profile at @abolet-paleo.bsky.social) and osteoscutes belonguing to their family (Anguidae) are some of the most common fossils in the localities I study!.

Bonfitto, Randi & Alibardi on slow worm skin. Slow worms have a thick, rigid beta layer on the outside and overlapping, unkeeled scales for burrowing & slithering {I see this in the shed skins!}. Their head sensilli (skin sense organs - wow!) are rounded. 🐍💨 onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1...

Ever heard of "glass lizards?" They don't have legs and are truly lizards. My dad was a biology professor at a university and one of the other professors had a glass lizard in his office for a while. It was an interesting creature to watch.
