Holy, antitrust!
November 3, 2026 at 2:46 PM
Antitrust needs to take this down, much like when Microsoft used Windows to push Internet Explorer and blocked competing web browsers. Stopping these sort of unfair trade practices is a big reason antitrust law exists.

Man, remember antitrust laws?

Weren't those fuckin' neat? You think we can get some of those back?

A new DOJ must get serious about tech antitrust.
“The company’s new strategy underscores Google’s powerful role in American education. If school leaders want continued student access to search within the company’s ecosystem, they will be forced to embrace Google’s A.I.”
Google Will Turn Off Search for Schools That Reject A.I.
Google is making it easier to restrict its A.I. tools for students. But schools that block A.I. entirely will lose student access to Google’s search engine.

That's an interesting tying antitrust claim I suppose
November 3, 2026 at 3:53 PM
In antitrust law, we call this “tying.”
search and AI *could* be dis-deeply-integrated.
November 6, 2026 at 4:01 AM
And they’re going to do the same with looking to restrict immigration and asylum seekers, and union busting and antitrust rollbacks and every time they’ll swear it’s just this one thing.

Getting worried about antitrust enforcement will do that

This is both an educational abomination and a potential antitrust violation.

Google is tying its popular search tool to its increasingly unpopular AI-in-school offering.

How about some congressional hearings?

And remember: the feds are not the only ones who can bring an antitrust case.

turns out we're not a country of individualist sociopaths!

If the last Progressive Era gave us the Sherman Antitrust Act I want this time I want the equivalent for meaningful tech and privacy regulation! End the surveillance state! My data is mine!

REGULATE BLACK BOX ALGOS

It's exactly the kind of crap antitrust laws were meant to prevent.

The Sherman Antitrust Act allows the federal government to take legal action against monopolistic practices, which can include the seizure of assets from companies found to be in violation of antitrust laws.

KOSA, and similarly misguided proposals like age verification laws and attacks on Section 230, have been vehemently opposed by key constituencies in the Democratic base: LGBTQ groups, abortion rights orgs, human rights experts, etc.

But there is broad consensus for things like privacy & antitrust

And then his second response was to try to sue the advertisers under antitrust laws, alleging it was a coordinated effort, because conservatives *also* believe that it should be illegal not to like them

Hopefully stronger antitrust laws.
November 6, 2026 at 5:39 PM
Anyway just putting it out there, but antitrust laws are a very very good thing
November 4, 2026 at 4:42 AM
serious follow-up: effective regulation is difficult, even more so with an industry in need of antitrust intervention. a blue congress can only do so much with a DOJ and FTC full of clowns.

HOWEVER? consider what political cachet the industry had during the obama years. that's never coming back
lmao at all the tech billionaires who saw 2024 and went "mandate???" and tied themselves and their entire fucking industries inextricably to a sinking ship
