A Magical Girl Rehired by #ParkSeolyeon, translated by #antonhur is a delightful book two in the series, available December 6, 2026 by #HarperVia. It does a great job of developing and describing while maintaining the relatability and heart of the characters and conflicts. It's a fun read!

Since 2022, #TranslatorsAloud has been contributing to a bursary for the #BCLT Literary Translation Summer School, either helping to fund a full place for a participant, or to cover travel costs...
Our first recipient in 2022 was Bryony Lau, who joined the multilingual prose workshop with @antonhur.

This thread on the military being sent to South Korea’s National Assembly is astounding. (Especially the first hand accounts from special ops). Deep thanks to @antonhur who not only translates literature but newspapers for us.
Oh wow, we already have them.

"We were told it was an operation to fight North Korean infiltrators. But when we got off the bus, we realized we were at the National Assembly."

"We realized the op was against unarmed civilians only when we arrived . . . I am sorry. I feel ashamed."

i hope @antonhur.com doesn't mind me sharing this; he's right, it's way past time for south korea to drop the mandatory conscription of men into military service

the human cost is staggering and can be linked in a lot of ways to so many ills in modern korean society

#AntonHur talks about his first novel but also about #translation between #korean and #english: "the arts are the true third culture where we can all meet and be in communion with one another across space and time."

Thanks to @antonhur for this thread. I really hope the military in the US are reading it. They too are going to face some difficult choices in the coming months.

From previous years, three books I read from the IBP were “The Vegetarian” by Han Kang (she won the Nobel Prize most recently) and “Heaven” by Mieko Kawakami, which I still cannot shake off. Bora Chung’s “Cursed Bunny,” translated by #antonhur, was also great if you’re into speculative fiction.

He’s jealous of the attention I’m about to pay Lee Seong-bok via @AntonHur. He is frequently jealous of the contents of @sublunaryeds packages. Maybe he is their chonky nemesis. (But c’mon Tuft, THIS COVER DESIGN):

@antonhur I know you don’t have your replies on so I just wanted to let you know I finished your book “Toward Eternity” and I want to compliment you on the most intensely dense world building within a singular first chapter that I’ve ever experienced. Also, your S. Korean politics coverage is peak.
