GenX - I read a couple of the Little House books and found them kind of boring. I don't think I bothered with the AoGG books but when my sisters demanded we watch both shows, AoGG was less annoying.
a follow-up secondary question: if you're read Little House as a kid, did you also read Anne of Green Gables?
Is Little House on the Prairie one of the dividing lines between Gen X and Millennials?

GenX - I read a couple of the Little House books and found them kind of boring. I don't think I bothered with the AoGG books but when my sisters demanded we watch both shows, AoGG was less annoying.

Not really surprising, IMO. AoGG is comfort food. Hell, I read it as a kid in Illinois. It's realistic but has a plausible happy ending. Romance is still the perennial best-selling genre because one thing fiction does, besides encourage empathy, is give a reader somewhere to go when life's hard.

Such a self-fulfilling prophecy. I don't know if it's because they were homeschooled for a while or what, but my boys will actively pick the "girl" books off the summer reading options (Little Women, AoGG, etc). The middle schooler in particular is really a guy's guy, but he knows a good story.

Although this one wasn't for me, gotta shout out LM Montgomery's granddaughter who's running the estate for giving her blessing to have two live acting AoGG productions running concurrently, not all kiddos have Netflix & hopefully this got a kid to read a book like the 87 one did w me

LRP: Amy Coney Barrett missed the part of the AoGG series where L. M. Montgomery very much beats the reader over the head about how children deserve love & care simply for who they are and not simply to be servants bc they happened to be orphaned

Love AOGG. Almost put it on my list. I’ve been to PEI, to the LM Montgomery house. Red soil was gorgeous. Fun part: we later stayed the night in a lighthouse overlooking the ocean. Also went to New Foundland, Labrador, New Brunswick & Nova Scotia on that trip. Lots of icebergs.
