Nowadays Aphia are often substituted for noodlefishes (Salangidae), a really odd little family related to smelts that I can't stop thinking about at the moment. Sentient beansprouts.
A pile of Salanx bonefish on banana(?) leaves. They are white and translucent, broadly cylindrical with big, goofy, googly eyes. They look kinda like udon or beansprouts.

They're eaten in Spain and Italy, lightly battered and deep fried (which tbf sounds really yummy). Apparently now though the Aphia aren't doing that well and they're protected in Spain, so largely replaced with the (imo very weird!) noodlefishes (Salangidae)
A plate of chanquetes - whole, small, golden deep-fried fishes served with lemon wedges. They kinda look like segments of onion rings.

It's so nuts that there's a commercial fishery for transparent gobies (Aphia minuta). Oh yea lemme just go catch some unflavoured gelatin lmao.

Roland Martin did not have to say anything beyond express sympathy for Dr. Cerina Fairfax who was murdered by her estranged husband. We don't give af about your muderous frat brother. Men have such a hard time tossing their friends in the bin even when they kill us.
Today's #RolandMartinUnfiltered is going to be very difficult. I knew Justin and his wife, Dr. Cerina Fairfax. I was simply stunned this morning when hearing the devastating news of the murder-suicide. Justin was my #APhiA @apa1906network brother and in the same Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity chapter, Beta Nu. Last year, Cerina texted me to tell me that she recommended @norfolkstateuniversity have me as their commencement speaker, and was saddened when they picked someone else. I was personally aware of how devastated Justin was about the two sexual assault allegations made against him when he was 48 hours away from becoming governor of Virginia in the wake of the Gov. Ralph Northam blackface scandal. We often texted. I am so saddened for their two children. They are now left without a mom and dad, and now have to carry the emotional toll of Justin's actions. Domestic violence is real. And so is mental health. I have booked two Black male mental health experts to speak on this tonight. Please be in prayer for those kids, Cerina's family and Justin's. This tragedy had altered the lives of many.
