It's called "apophenia" and it's the human tendency to see signs in random things.

It's a very common affliction among conspiracy theorists who believe that by connecting the imagined dots, they'll unravel some kind of mystery; and the Charlie Kirk assassination has delivered a classic example already.

Apophenia (the recognition of patterns in random data) and agenticity (the tendency to assume events are the product of conscious actors) are incredibly rife in human reasoning. We actively prefer to believe in a human-like presence when we observe things.

Apophenia : the human propensity to perceive meaningful connections in unrelated events & phenomena. Taken to extremes Apophenia is a feature of conspiracy theories, religions & psychiatric delusions. Coincidence & unrelated events woven together create an unrealistic viewpoint or an illusory plot.
