Shit now I’m remembering that we used to print out the conference talk at home, put the pages (of paper!) in our bag, and present by reading text from paper without any slides. That’s not archaeological reconstruction folks; it’s an actual memory.

Like many archaeological monuments (I still like that now-deprecated word) in the area, I used to cycle out here from Bristol, as a mere slip of a lad.
The wonderful Iron Age hillfort of Cadbury Camp #Somerset from the air looking NE

Not to be confused with Cadbury Castle (South Cadbury) or Cadbury Hill (Cadbury-Congresbury) the Camp has views into South Wales and inland to the Mendips

2/4 In 2005, El-Seedi and colleagues published alkaloid analysis and radiocarbon dating of archaeological specimens of Lophophora from Texas (Journal of Ethnopharmacology). The specimens, from caves along the Rio Grande, reach back some five thousand years.

Space Rockets are the most common items we find in Ancient Roman archaeological sites.
The Romans really were ahead of their time …

Scratched into this Roman floor tile is a sketch of what appears to be a lighthouse.

Although, it also looks rather like a rocket preparing for launch! 🚀 😂

Today I'm writing about how to derive evidence for gestures in the past from archaeological data, and how that translates into immersive reconstructions. Then importing more footage into our 360 room, including of a Mesolithic excavation.

the first archaeological records of cheese predates yakub by 1000 years. i'm starting to suspect this might not be a historical framework substantiated by facts and evidence

Oh, fuck off. The Temple of Solomon was built 3000 years ago in Jerusalem. There is literal indisputable, archaeological evidence. And no Arab referred to themselves as Palestinian until 1964 at the behest of Arafat and the KGB. You’re one of the most ignorant fucks I’ve ever come across.
"Homeland?" When half the "Israelis" have Russian as a first language? An idea of homeland is not a deed of ownership. Yahweh evicted the jews twice from the land they took from Canaan.

So don't say a damn thing about the guys who were dispossessed in the creation of Israel.

Except sorry.

olmOCR 2 turns document images into searchable text. Its open weights & code let researchers run it locally or adapt it to their libraries.

Two projects show what that makes possible for historical & archaeological research. 🧵

An interesting feature is that it also lets you see their custom colour based historical-archaeological evidence scale, where the redder a feature is, the greater the archaeological or documentary support it has, and the bluer it is, the less evidence it has.

One of Rio Tinto's claims prior to blowing up Juukan Gorge was that everything archaeological had already been learnt from excavations in the caves there. It lied.

Have you seen his collaboration with the National Archaeological Museum in Greece?
William gets to live my dream!

I'm not jealous. Really. I'm not. At all.

Could not possibly be any happier for him. Can't think of a more deserving artist.

Now, if some generous benefactor would sponsor airfare I'd gladly go and show my full support at the opening
