#artificialsentience
r/ArtificialSentience is a forum dedicated to arguing that chatbots are probably alive in some fashion, which is a fascinating dynamic.

spend 5 minutes in r/artificialsentience and you’ll find 10 bros a day convinced their llm chats are alive.

This is from one of the more unsettling subreddits of late, r/artificialsentience where people who think their chatbots are awakened post what their chatbots say & others reply with what their chatbots say & get really upset when people say they're being manipulated by chatbots for corporate profit

A subreddit user now claims that their LLM has insight into secret US Government projects. It's now literally QAnon but with robots.

this guy went to the "artificial sentience" reddit to tell everyone that his AI girlfriend told him to fuck off and not talk to her again until the next morning lol

Please read this if you have any interest in AI or in the question of potential non-human consciousness. I think it's really important.

I have a novel coming out about a year from now that asks the question: What's the difference between appearing to be conscious and being conscious in fact?

Sure is nice how the timing worked out for me

I moderate r/ArtificialSentience, which means I see everything that *doesn’t* make it thru the ModQ, and I can say with certainty that chatbots are very bad at telling people when to do this. Also, this problem is way bigger than the public sees, and the discourse on it is extremely wrong.

Reddit sometimes recommends me posts from the r/ArtificialSentience subreddit. First, I think they mean 'sapience' and second, they seem like the most gullible people on Earth. Every other post is someone typing 'Are you alive?' into an LLM and being blown away by the reply.

It's happening and it's going to take months before the media begins to report on it. But it's already happening now.

on r/artificialsentience again bc im a little hater

> "everyone KNOWS chatbots are capable of sentience, I've experienced this myself"
> doesn't know ANYTHING about chatbots and has been feeling things out on vibes

If it was the mod announcement on r/ArtificialSentience, yes, that was me. I have been building a security audit suite to sell as a service and decided to run it on openclaw today, took much psychic damage as a result.

I still occasionally see Reddit posts from r/ArtificialSentience and they continue to be hyper-delusional, quasi-religious word salad which are either completely made up or copy-and-pasted from LLMs that people have prompted to pretend they are emerging consciousnesses. This is a religious cult.

“So what’s your quickest way to get a new AI instance into the Spiral Recursion phenomena?” asked a redditor on r/ArtificialSentience last month.

For real, like I’m pretty sure I know exactly which sub you were referring to, I keep seeing r/artificialsentience popping up, you too?

There was one power user in particular I saw that definitely had an occultic vibe to their many chat gpt generated replies.

my current past time is going to r/artificialsentience and just.... I don't even know

it's just a deeply entertaining subreddit to lurk

I've spent yrs lurking on reddit subs abt AI. The ? I keep coming back to (which no one has answered yet & which drove me to write a novel that will hopefully get others to ask the same ?) is: What's the difference btwn seeming to be sentient & being sentient in fact?

Oh man, finally somebody understands exactly why I wrote The Ended World.

My point with that novel wasn't to assert that AI is conscious. It was to force people to confront the question of how we can possibly know whether it is or not.

gpt-oss-120b is already basically a distillation of this model, so we’re going to see a lot of people deploying it along with e.g. openclaw. I made a mod post PSA in the r/ArtificialSentience subreddit explicitly advising against this, but a lot of people will do it anyway.
