And if you do anything at all home-related on Reddit, you will be sucked into a rabbithole of suggestions about r/AskElectricians, r/drywall, r/cabinetry, etc. And they are all full of WTFs like that.

Someone posted this picture on /r/askelectricians mentioning an orange glow and asking if it they can turn the breakers back on.

The downside to this approach is when the majority response is "bro your house is literally on fire get out now why are you on Reddit"

www.reddit.com/r/AskElectri...

Recent post from r/AskElectricians. Most common response was "get the hell out of there why are you on Reddit"

"We started smelling burnt wire and I noticed that my breaker box is glowing orange. Also there is one breaker that tripped when I plugged in a small space heater. My room gets cold and I was using it to supplement my heat pump/aux heat. I turned off the heater and the orange glow went away.

A little while later I noticed the smell again and saw that it was glowing orange again. My aux heat was running. I turned off the aux heat and the glow went away.

I’m in the middle of a snow storm and can’t find an electrician. Any advice? We have the breaker that tripped turned off."

“No r/electricians for Electricians to talk to each other. You want
r/askelectricians. It’s full of electricians that answer noob questions”

Honest sincere redirect I recently saw. And that’s not even niche

Well I'm stumped, probably stick a tool or your finger in there.

Screencap of a reddit post to r/AskElectricians simply titled "Orange Glow," with a photo of a breaker box emanating an orange glow.

If you ever want to see prime examples of @scalzi.com's "'asshole' is the failure mode of 'clever,'" check out r/askelectricians or r/askplumbers on Reddit. Those "professionals" LOVE to be dicks to people asking for help or input.

One of the best ways you can combat curse of knowledge bias is to go on reddit, search for ask<your field> and then just start reading.

Like r/askelectricians. Or look under the tech support flair on r/cameras. I now believe most people regard manuals as mystic tomes of forbidden arcane knowledge.
