Superman and the Authority will probably be overlooked in Grant Morrison's catalog of the character, and it only delivered half as Socialist a Superman as you'd hope for, but this self-referential bit was an elegant way to show how Superman was trading Individualism for collective action.
Superman battles the angel Asmodel, King Angel of the Bull Host of Heaven's Army, the Pax Dei. Electricity flows all over the place (Superman was electrical at the time), the massive winged Asmodel bellows "YIELD!" and Superman shouts in defiance "NEVER!" Manchester Black's miniaturized mental projection stands on a graying Superman's shoulder. The relevant bits of dialogue involve Superman saying to Black "This psychic world is where I yield to your talents." and Black, incredulous for any number of possible reasons, replies "'Yield' -- he says!"

I’m not even being silly. Genuinely, these two moments from JLA #7 by Morrison and Porter are up there among my favourite Supes moments. If I didn’t have to rush after a two year old all day, I would’ve done a full list.
